Chester Film Society in partnership with STORYHOUSE

We are excited to announce that this summer Chester Film Society will be partnering with STORYHOUSE to show three fantastic films over three months!
We then expect to continue this partnership until the end of 2021, after which, all being well, we will put on a mini-season from January to May 2022 at our usual venues of St Mary's and the Grosvenor Museum, with the International Film Festival back at Storyhouse during March.

Tickets for each film are £6 but Chester Film Society subscribers can get a discount of 10% using Promotion Code CFS10

The Films:

Tuesday 29th June at 6pm

Dear Comrades! (Russia, 2020, Dir. Andrei Konchalovsky) Cert 15

A stunning re-creation of a Soviet-era massacre.
When the communist government raises food prices in 1962, the rebellious workers from the small industrial town of Novocherkassk go on strike. The massacre which then ensues is seen through the eyes of a devout party activist. Dear Comrades! received critical praise at the Venice Film Festival.

Tuesday 27th July at 6pm
Two of Us (France, 2019, Dir. Filippo Meneghetti) Cert 12A

Barbara Sukowa and Martine Chevallier are riveting in this romantic drama.

Two retired women have been secretly in love for decades. Everybody thinks they are simply neighbours, sharing the top floor of their building. They come and go between their two apartments, enjoying the affection and pleasures of daily life together, until an unforeseen event turns their relationship upside down.

Tuesday 31st August at 6pm
Tove (Finland 2019, Dir. Zaida Bergroth) Cert 12A

Art, love, jealousy and freedom are themes at the heart of this biopic of Moomins creator Tove Jansson.

The Moomins, with their hippo-like silhouettes, are beloved cartoon characters familiar to readers around the globe. But less is known about their creator, the bisexual, Swedish-speaking, Finnish visual artist and author Tove Jansson and her surprisingly unconventional life. The engaging biopic “Tove,” from Finnish helmer Zaida Bergroth, goes a long way toward remedying that knowledge gap.
