Winston Heights - Mountview has been chosen as one of 25 communities in Calgary to benefit from the Parks Department Re-tree Initiative. The folks from Urban Forestry will determine where new trees can be planted in the community and will replace some of those damaged by the storms in the past couple of years. If the tree location is adjacent to your property, you will be notified two weeks in advance.

In addition to new trees, the City is offering us educational programs about trees and the urban canopy:

Stretch Your Roots - Thursday, June 23 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

These workshops will be provided by the City of Calgary and sponsored by the WHMCA.

Come hungry for knowledge and leave with a healthy appreciation for Calgary’s Urban Forest.

Registration can be done by completing the Re-Tree: FREE Tree Education form.

Space is very limited so please register as soon as possible.

We've had several community members inquiring about shared interests and if anyone had a Club/Group organized.  An example of an existing club is the Book Club, however there the potential for many more!

If you'd like to start a club/group and get your information out there, let us know!  Some ideas that have been put forward are, knitting, sewing, running and photography.

Let us know if you are interested in anything and we can help connect you!

This easygoing group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7-9 pm at the Winston Heights-Mountview Community Centre Board Room. Mom's Night Out

Come join an awesome group of neighbourhood moms for a monthly evening at a local restaurant. Join us for a bite, a glass of wine, cup of tea or just enjoy the great conversation! The group has also organized other activities such as a weekly walking group and team participation in local running races.

To sign up for the Mom's Night Out (MNO) notices that include details of this month's event(s), please use the eNewsletter sign up at the side of the page and select 'Mom's Night Out'. For more information, please contact Christine at

We are also looking for a MNO coordinator!  If you have an interest in volunteering or helping to organize the MNO events, please contact Christine at

We will be meeting on May TBA

Are you a mom, dad, grandparent or caregiver in the neighbourhood and would like to have a place to go to meet other people and have your children socialize and play with others? Then come and join us at the Winston Heights-Mountview Playgroup held at the Winston Heights-Mountview Community Centre. We have great toys for the kids to play with and this is a great way to get out and meet others. Playgroup is held each Monday morning starting at 10:00 a.m. and lasts to 11:30 a.m (starting up again September 14, 2015).

This is an informal, non-registered playgroup, so no need to sign up, just come out and join us on Monday mornings - we love to meet new families in the neighbourhood! If you have any questions, or would like more information, please contact Sarah Wiedmer Jarabak at

Also, if you'd be interested in having a 'story time' during playgroup, please contact me via e-mail. If we have enough interest, I will organize a Calgary Public Library public outreach coordinator to schedule us in for regular story times. They bring books on a specific theme and read a few to the children while guardians quietly visit. The books are even available to be checked out if you bring your library card with you.

The third Friday of every month at 6pm, the WHMCA hosts a family-friendly pot luck dinner. All community residents are welcome to attend. Bring a dish to share and anything special you might like to drink (coffee, tea, juice and water are provided) and come on out to meet your neighbours for some great food and ever better company and conversation.

There are toys and activities for children and it's a great opportunity to meet new neighbours and friends.

If you’ve not yet made it out to the potluck but would like to attend, please come by. If you want more information, please contact Darla at To sign up for the Potluck notices that include details of this month's event(s), please use the eNewsletter sign up at the side of the page and select 'Potluck'.
