Town Office Closed

In observance of President's Day, the Town office will be closed Monday, February 17, 2020.

Draft Comprehensive & Land Use Plan Comment Period

The draft plan is available for review and comment here.  There are multiple ways to view and submit comments. Comments will be accepted until March 18, 2020.
An open house with a presentation and additional comment options will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. More details will be posted soon.

Town Council Retreat

The Duck Town Council will hold its annual retreat on Wednesday, February 19 and Thursday, February 20 from 8:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall. This meeting is open to the public and all interested parties are welcome to attend.

Board of Adjustment Vacancy

The Town is seeking applicants to fill the current vacancy on the Board of Adjustment. Interested parties should submit an application to the Town. More information about the Board of Adjustment can be found here.

To apply, please complete the application form found here. Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21.

Bias Speaker Series: "How Women Won for Themselves the Right to Vote"

Join us on Thursday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall for "How Women Won for Themselves the Right to Vote" by Professor Lin Logan. This event is free and open to the public. Find more information here

Duck Trail Improvements

The Town has contracted with RPC Contracting for Duck Trail improvements to several areas of the Duck Trail. RPC has completed the new sections of concrete path just south of Station Bay Drive, the Four Seasons intersection, and Four Seasons Lane to Plover Drive. Further grading will be completed in these areas before grass is installed to stabilize the construction zone.

Beach Grass Planting

Weather permitting, Town of Duck Volunteers will be planting American beach grass at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 17 at the end of Lala Ct. If you are interested in joining the effort, contact Sandy Cross at or call 252-255-1234.

Census 2020

The 2020 Census is just around the corner. Starting in late March, you will receive an invitation to participate and be able to complete the census form online, by paper, or by phone. Make the pledge now to count everyone living in your household. Your participation is important to ensure that Dare County receives its fair share of resources.

Pedestrian Plan Phase III Update

Little or no activity is expected on specific Phase III construction as RPC focuses on completion of the Duck Trail improvements.

Rotating Art Show: "People, Pets, and Places You Love"

This watercolor exhibit by Mary Edwards can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room at Duck Town Hall Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) February 7 through April 29, 2020.

FEMA Flood Maps

In 2016, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released updated preliminary flood maps for all of Dare County. FEMA has now issued its letter of final map determination and the new maps will become effective on June 19, 2020.

In recognition of these changes and the challenges that the new maps present, the Town of Duck and the other municipalities in Dare County are considering the adoption of development standards that will maintain a minimum building elevation standard. These proposed standards will be reviewed and considered by the Town of Duck Planning Board and Town Council in the coming months.
