Coronavirus / COVID-19

Following a meeting of the Dare County Control Group this morning, March 16, a State of Emergency has been put in place to allow the County and individual towns to quickly implement restrictions necessary to help combat the spread of COVID-19.

At this time, the State of Emergency restricts mass gatherings of 50 people or more, guidance that was established by the Centers for Disease Control on Sunday, March 15.

Draft Comprehensive & Land Use Plan Comment Period

The draft plan is available for review and comment here.  There are multiple ways to view and submit comments. Comments will be accepted until March 18, 2020.

Bias Speaker Series: "Living Shorelines"

This event has been canceled in light of state and county recommendations for coronavirus safety.
Town Council meetings, Planning Board meetings, and associated public hearings are planned to continue at this time. Updates will be shared as we continue to evaluate the changing situation.

Continue to use your best judgement when deciding to attend a Town meeting. Public comments can be submitted online or via mail. While public hearings are more rigid in witness attendance, please contact the Town if you have concerns about your attendance at a meeting.
Town activities have been canceled or postponed until after April 15, when they will be re-evaluated.

Speaker Series Events

FEMA Flood Maps

In 2016, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released updated preliminary flood maps for all of Dare County. FEMA has now issued its letter of final map determination and the new maps will become effective on June 19, 2020.

In recognition of these changes and the challenges that the new maps present, the Town of Duck and the other municipalities in Dare County are considering the adoption of development standards that will maintain a minimum building elevation standard. These proposed standards will be reviewed and considered by the Town of Duck Planning Board and Town Council in the coming months.
