It's time to up your game.
Minecraft U is offering a new camp this summer July 11-22. We're calling it Independent Study and it is an advanced application of all the skills our star students mastered in Sequences 2, 3 and 4.
From the official Hockaday camp signup site:
This camp is an advanced course that will give campers hands-on software development experience, within the context of Minecraft, and teach them to push the boundaries of both their creative and technical ability.
The curriculum will introduce students to the project planning and implementation process as they work collaboratively on the design of a virtual world and user experience. They will utilize advanced applications of Redstone, ComputerCraft, and mod development in Java, as necessary.
Some of the intellectual skills students can expect to attain include logical creativity, project management, and cooperative design. Above all, they will begin to acquire an intelligent grasp of how computer code is developed into a functional software product.
This course is only for advanced campers who have completed all the Minecraft U sequences and have shown particular aptitude with the material and concepts therein, including clock circuits, logic gates, and Java.
It will be possible to take this camp remotely. If that is something you are interested in, please email me to discuss details. (A dedicated PC and fast internet will be necessary.)
Many of the techniques that will be used in this camp are taken straight out of Silicon Valley. One such technique is the Design Sprint, a design practice developed at Google. While we won't have a full week to design and prototype our "product" (we will need to get started building and coding within a couple of days in order to get done within the two weeks), we will borrow some things from the Design Sprint. Here is the Design Sprint explained in 1 minute:
