The results are in.

The goals of our Independent Study camps were to design and build our own modpacks and maps and both the morning and afternoon campers saw great success in these endeavors.

You can check out the instructions on how to install the modpacks and the map downloads at the links below:

JDK's Insanity: Named after the three author's first initials, which happen to coincide with the Java Development Kit, a tool we use to write custom mods for Minecraft. This mod pack and map feature boss fights with giant scorpions, monkey kings, Steve’s ghost; awesome loot like giants swords, rapid-fire bows, and special armor pieces; a vertigo-inducing maze; and challenging parkour. It also has the most insane finalé ever.

Road to Rioza: Also named via the author's initials, and an Olympic-themed pun, this map has a series of parkours that will keep your feet a’burnin and a variety of mazes. Mods include cars, shopping carts, crossbows that shoot lightning bolts, and more. Your reward after all of that work is a respite in a hotel in the town of Rioza. (I have not been able to beat this map, for example!) This map also features a mod written by one of the authors.

As soon as camps were over we made a command decision to rename this camp "Product Design", which is 100% more descriptive than "Independent Study". Be on the lookout for this and all our curriculum on offer weekends this fall...
The JDK crew used a mod that could generate structures for them and they used that feature to quickly create areas of interest in their map. Pictured here is the pirate ship, nearby is a very well hidden loot chest.
The Rioza team embarked on some advanced pixel art. There's even a Mondrian mural!

If you are wondering what we're talking about and would like to read the first two installments in this series you can do so here and here.
