Announcements and Reminders

  • From the Director of Multicultural & Community Development, Pascale Musto:

On Saturday, February 2nd, we will be joined by Dr. Cornel West for our MLK/Black History Month celebration.  Dr. West is a Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard University, and he is one of America’s most prominent and provocative democratic intellectuals.  Whether in the classroom, the streets, the prisons or church, Dr. West’s passion keeps alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. – a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice. Dr. West has taught at Yale, Harvard, the University of Paris, Princeton, and, most recently, Union Theological Seminary. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his MA and PhD in philosophy at Princeton. He has written 20 books and has edited 13. Dr. West  is best known for his classics Race Matters and Democracy Matters, and his memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud.

Opening the program will be the Ladies of Essence, a women’s a cappella group, from Tufts University that specializes in music of the African Diaspora and of Jazz, Reggae, R&B, Soul, etc.  Later in February, on Tuesday, February 19th author & playwright Michael Fosberg will be our featured guest as part of the Spectrum Dialogues speaker series.  Mr. Fosberg will be performing his one man play, Incognito, on race and identity.  We are excited that Mr. Fosberg’s performance will be among the first in the new Fortmiller Studio Theater.  Prior to his performance and talk, Mr. Fosberg will join the students and faculty for dinner. In early March, we will host our annual Diversity Symposium.  This year we are excited to bring Rodney Glasgow and his team to Middlesex.  Mr. Glasgow is the Chair of the National Association of Independent School’s Student Diversity Leadership Conference, and this year he is bringing the program to Middlesex.  Over the course of two days, our entire community will be immersed in the experience of the diversity leadership program.
