What's up this week with
Believers On Mountain Bikes (BOMB)

Weekly Update

Finished in the dark last week at Dakota Ridge, Black Bear (Picture) this week and good idea to bring a light again.  Still have a month until Daylight Saving starts, but sunset at 6:30 so get it while the getting is good.

Devotional
Several of us are in the habit of having a post-ride recovery drink.  Goes down a lot better if you like the taste.  My (Doug) favorite is chocolate flavored Recoverite by Hammer Nutrition.  I also like vanilla mixed mixed frozen berries, a little yogurt, and some coconut milk blended to make a post-race smoothie.  There are a ton of great tasting pre-ride, ride, and post-ride nutrition products on the market.  I often don’t take in calories during a ride unless it is a really long ride.  In that case my two favorite products are Hammer Nutrition’s apple cinnamon or montana huckleberry flavored gels.  For something more substantial like the epic ride I wrote about in a prior devotional - a half of a pumpkin bagel with almond butter is quite satisfying.  We have a spatula in our house that says “Taste and see that the Lord is good!”  Psalm 34:8

How do we taste and see that the Lord is good?  Here’s what the Psalmist suggests:

Seek the Lord - “I sought the Lord, and he answered me;” vs. 4

I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
    and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
    and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
    seek peace and pursue it.

We can live in the presence of the Lord now, but we must seek him - read the Bible, experience his creation, fellowship in community with other Believers, listen to worship music, sing praises, and talk to God.  Just like there are nutrition products targeted for pre-ride or pre-race, during ride or during a race, and post-ride or post-race, do all of these things before your day starts, during your day, and at the end of the day.  The more you immerse yourself in living a life for God, the more you can “taste and see that the Lord is good.”
