What's up this week with
Believers On Mountain Bikes (BOMB)

Weekly Update

Only 5 more weeks until Daylight Saving time starts.  5:30 start this week at expert rated Dakota Ridge trail, we park at the Matthews Winters lot.  Bring a light the rest of the season.

What is your favorite time of year to ride?  Is it the fall with the nice crisp mornings or cooler afternoons, the amazing colors of the leaves, or the early evenings and night rides with lights on?  Or maybe you love riding in the winter with the bright white snow, the color contrasts of white snow, trees, and bright blue skies?  Or maybe it is the spring as everything is new again – the trees and flowers blooming, the smells of spring?  Or maybe it is the heart of the summer – the trails are often in prime shape or blown out, the heat of the day, the beating sun.

This past weekend I (Doug) was riding in Breckenridge.  The colors were near their peak, and I took time to stop and breathe in God’s creation and pray to God.  I wasn’t in any hurry.  It was all so beautiful.  The last couple weeks we discussed the importance of taking time to stop and pray, and praise the Lord.  That was what this weekend reminded me of.  The mountains shout his majesty.  It reminded me of a Bible verse and Chris Tomlin song.

Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Psalm 8:1 - O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

And there are various other verses where God’s creation declares his glory and majesty.

From Chris Tomlin’s song Indescribable:

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creations revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

God’s glory is truly amazing.  It is all around us, all the time.  At times we need to stop what we are doing and take it in – look around.  Hear the birds chirp, watch the squirrels run around, listen to the aspen leaves in the wind, look at the amazing colors of a sunrise or sunset.  All of these things declare the glory of God.  Next time you are out riding, stop and soak it in.  Praise the Lord.  Set your heart right during that time.  Also, ponder, as part of God’s creation are you declaring his glory and majesty?  Would someone look at you and think, that person is different and wonder why?  Is the Holy Spirit pouring out of you so that you declare God’s glory and majesty?  If not, what is getting in your way?  Yes, we are all sinners, redeemed through Christ Jesus for those that repent and turn to him.  That brings us into God’s kingdom as children of God, intended to declare his glory, not our own.
