What's up this week with
Believers On Mountain Bikes (BOMB)

Weekly Update

Great ride at Apex last week, really busy trail but fun to see all the people out enjoying the trail.

This week we have Lair on the Thursday schedule and many will be in Moab for our annual group trip.  Have heard several still plan on riding Lair on Thursdday so there will be a regular ride.

What is your favorite aroma associated with mountain biking?  One that brings back memories or sparks memories?  Maybe it is the smell of pine pollen in the spring.  I (Doug) visited Colorado a lot as a kid and always thought that is just how the mountains smell.  So every year when I can smell the pine pollen I always associate it with mountain air and trips to the mountains as a kid.  Maybe an aroma that brings back memories is the smell of a brand new tire, or chain lube, or suspension oil.
The last few weeks we've discussed things that prevent us from sharing the gospel, sharing our own testimony and the gospel.  In 2nd Corinthians 2:2:14-17, Paul writes, "But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.  For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.  To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life.  And who is equal to such a task?  Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit.  On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
A few interesting points on this, but before we dive in I wanted to disclose two things.  First, we are covering 2nd Corinthians this fall at Waterstone.  So if you are interested in learning more about this passage you can listen to Pastor Paul's message from this past weekend.  Second, this devotional was inspired by Paul's message but fits in with what we've been discussing.  First, in ancient times a ruler or king that was victorious would often parade their captives through the city streets as a trophy.  In doing so, the victorious party would often burn incense - the smell of victory.  Those captives were then often made to fight animals to the death or sold as slaves.  The smell of incense to those captives would have conjured up death.  To those victorious it would have conjured up victory.  Note, Paul refers to us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession.  He also states that God uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of God everywhere.  That aroma can be pleasing or not.  To those that believe and follow Christ that aroma is pleasing.  To those that find the gospel offensive, that aroma is horrible.  The point is, some people are not going to agree with the gospel - it will be offensive to them.  To others, the gospel will be an amazing aroma as it signifies life.  God uses us to spread the aroma and we hope that aroma will be pleasing.  The point is, we need to be in the game and spread the aroma.
