What's up this week with
Believers On Mountain Bikes (BOMB)

Weekly Update

6pm though August. The ride today is Waterton and includes a portion of the Colorado trail.    The canyon offers shade and the water often makes it feel nice a cool.  One of our few rides with a "warm up", and always enjoy chatting while we ride up the canyon. Will likely do a lap on the single-track, then do a Lenny's again as an out and back.

Devotional
Last week we explored getting into the Word and writing it on our heart.  On Sunday, Pastor Paul at Waterstone Church said, “The most counter-cultural thing we can do is to pick up our Bibles before our phones.”  I thought that was an interesting statement, especially in light of the devo last week, and his sermon touched on the “cancel culture” movement.  It is worth a watch.

What are some of the key pieces of clothing you wear mountain biking?  More and more, we are all wearing helmets that convert to full face, knee pads, elbow pads, cycling specific shoes (flats or clipless), mountain biking shorts, etc.  Most of the time we wear proper attire for the ride (although I do think we need a Hawaiian shirt night for one of the Thursday night rides) to protect us.  We are also often protecting our bike with frame protection, fenders/mud guards, cush core, etc.

The verse this week talks about clothing ourselves with something different.
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you.  Remember, the Lord forgave you so you must forgive others.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.  For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.  And always be thankful.”  Colossians 3:12-15

Just like we wear proper clothing for mountain biking, we need to focus on how God wants us to clothe ourselves as Christians.  If we do these things, it should lead to peace, because we’ve embraced how God wants us to live and our focus is on him, not on worldly things.  Ponder whether you are clothing yourselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Are you forgiving those that offend you?  That seems like a challenge for many in our current environment.  Are you clothing yourself in love - are you serving your neighbor, friends, families i.e. treating love as an action not an emotion?
