Thanks to the guys who helped build a new trail at Floyd Hill this last week (picture above). It's a lot of fun to go ride what you built, or at least your friends built. I'm looking forward to checking this new trail out, looks fun.
This week is Lair O' the Bear. Sunset is 7:04 pm, so bringing a light the rest of the year.
Has there ever been a mountain bike product you wanted to buy, but there are so many choices you didn’t know which one to buy. So you analyzed it and analyzed it and then finally picked one or maybe you were so overwhelmed you didn’t pick? Or maybe, you just decided to go with the product one of your most experienced mountain bike friends recommended. I’m sure we can all relate - maybe it is the best hip pack to buy, or best on bike tool system (One Up, Wolf Tooth, etc), or best bike computer. At some point you have to make a decision or by the time you finish your analysis new products will be out and you’ll have to start your analysis over.
This week I (Doug) was thinking a lot about prayer. I thought a devo that focused on praying for each other was timely, and of course, my daily Bible app revealed a good verse. Romans 8 talks about being led by the Holy Spirit and having the Holy Spirit in us. When we focus and listen to the Holy Spirit and center on Christ (not the world), we will be appropriately guided, even in prayer.
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” Romans 8:26
Sometimes we just need to pray. Just like we can over analyze our mountain bike purchase, we can over analyze what to pray for. So instead of buying that new mountain bike part, we are paralyzed with our analysis and we don’t buy anything. Similarly, we can become paralyzed with all the things going on in our world, with our family, friends, etc, that we become overwhelmed and we don’t pray. However, God wants us to pray. If we are struggling, we need to focus on the Holy Spirit who resides in us, and let the Holy Spirit guide our prayers. The more we practice prayer, the more natural this becomes.
There are so many things in our world to pray for right now. Last week we touched on several - each other, family friends, our country, peace, our first responders. We must also focus on praising God. In the end, if you struggle finding what to pray for, pray as Jesus taught us to pray:
Matthew 6:9-12 (NLT)
Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy, may your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
