Yemen program set to offer 7 paid fellowships

The School of Journalism expects to have seven fellowship spots for a nine-month program led by Professor Jeannine Relly, director of global initiatives for the Center for Border and Global Journalism. The program will be online and will be with partners in the country, Yemen. The program name is Al Jisr, which means The Bridge.

Those selected to the program, which would include a $400 monthly scholarship for nine months (Aug. 15, 2022-May 15, 2023), will have the opportunity to do the following:
  • Interact on a shared Slack space about everyday life
  • Meet twice a month on Zoom for about an hour with English-speaking partners and professor Relly to discuss cultural and journalism topics, listen to guest speakers and plan for multimedia projects, a podcast and a photo gallery.
  • Each student will participate in one collaborative project in the nine months
  • Work with a journalism coach online, your Yemen student collaborator and professor Relly to make sure the project is as great as it can be before it is published on The Daily Wildcat Al Jisr website.

Intern at Digital Futures Bilingual Studio

Interning at the Digital Futures Bilingual Studio (DF Studio) in fall 2022 is an opportunity to work on broadcast journalism and film projects that air in English and Spanish. You don't have to speak Spanish or have broadcast experience to apply. You'll learn to produce content for video and audio, using the PBS Newshour Student Reporting Labs guidelines. You can earn three units per semester under supervisor Nancy Montoya, a longtime broadcast journalist.

Students will produce news stories on research and projects on campus that could impact the world. There are in-studio interviews to do, podcasts to produce and documentary projects to work on. You'll also learn all aspects of working in a real studio, including how to operate the production switcher, set up lighting and audio. You'll learn how to be on-camera and behind the camera as a producer or director. The studio is located at Euclid & University, 811 N. Euclid Ave. It's just two blocks from the Marshall Building.

NBC News, MSNBC seek remote fall interns

NBCUniversal is offering some great paid opportunities to intern remotely with NBC News or MSNBC from Sept. 19 to Dec. 9.

Students will work 16 to 24 hours a week. Virtual opportunities include: NBC Weekend Nightly News, Weekend TODAY, Dateline, The Rachel Maddow Show, MSNBC Dayside,, and many others.

UA Confluencenter offers multimedia job

The Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry on campus is looking for a part-time, undergraduate student worker to assist in the creative development of newsworthy content for the center’s efforts. Apply by June 17 for the communications/multimedia job, which will start in June.

Arizona Cardinals seek social media intern 

Attention recent grads: The Arizona Cardinals are looking for a paid social media intern to join their NFL digital content team. Duties will include photographing practice, game-day coverage and management of the Arizona Cardinals’ Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat and other future accounts. The University of Arizona Athletics Sports Photography Internship aims to train, equip and grow the next generation of visual historians. Interested student(s) will hone their skills in manual exposure, studio lighting and storytelling through still images while learning what it takes to make a great sports picture through one-on-one mentoring in the classroom and on the field.

Knowing the job is not finished even when the final whistle blows, students will learn effective workflows for ingesting, applying metadata and post-processing images using industry standard applications PhotoMechanic, Adobe CC and PhotoShelter (Libris). Students can earn three credits per semester.

Want to be mentored by a NY Times journalist?

The Times Corps is a talent-pipeline program for college students — especially students of color and from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds — to receive career guidance from New York Times journalists over a multiyear period. It is open to the Classes of 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Students will talk with their Times advisers perhaps two or three times a year, up to the duration of students’ undergraduate careers, with the focus primarily on career-building advice. Students who complete the program will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City, tour the  newsroom and meet Times journalists in person. Apply here by June 15. If selected, you could receive consideration for The New York Times Fellowship, an immersive, yearlong work program after graduation.
