Report for America, Poynter job opportunities!

Attention upcoming grads: Report for America is looking to place more than 100 journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities. If you're graduating in December 2021 or May 2022 — and you're interested in applying for these positions — please contact me (Mike Chesnick) as soon as possible, so the school can schedule an information session with Report for America (RFA).

RFA will schedule interviews with students in December and January. Please review this FAQ to help you prepare. An initiative of the nonprofit media organization, the GroundTruth Project, RFA "is structured to harness the skills and idealism of an emerging group of journalists plus the creative spirit of local news organizations," according to Earl Johnson, RFA director of admissions.

And here's another great part-time job opportunity for all students, but you need to apply by this weekend: Poynter's youth fact-checking and digital media literacy program, MediaWise, is looking for new paid campus correspondents for the 2022 calendar year. Students lead one-hour virtual workshops for their peers at times that are convenient for them (so we work around class schedules). Students also create social media to support fact-checking and their campus visits, and are compensated $300 per workshop. The schedule is go-at-your-own pace and flexible. Here is the application form itself, along with the MediaWise site and its Instagram and TikTok sites.
And just a reminder: I've moved to another office — Marshall 343 — as a building crew begins construction on a new undergraduate lounge in 323 and broadcast studio in the Reading Room. The best way to enter my new office in 343 is from the side door near Room 342 (Harelson Lab).
Have a fun weekend, see listings below and note the Tuesday deadline for Hearst contest entries for narrative video storytelling and TV-features!
