The Month of Francophonie in Ireland 2016
1 March - 6 April 2016
Francophonie brings together 274 million French speakers from around the world along with 80 states and governments to form the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (IOF).

To celebrate French language and cultural diversity, the Month of Francophonie 2016 showcases a series of events across Ireland involving music, literature, film and history along with talks, debates and contests.

Presented by participating Francophone Embassies in Ireland, the Alliance Française and several Irish partners.

Fête de la Bande dessinée - Comic Book Festival 2016

For the 2nd year,  the Alliance Française Dublin,together with Illustrators Ireland and The Comics Lab, is delighted to bring you a  festival of comic books from the Irish and francophone community. Join us for this exciting opportunity to discover new voices and learn from leading professionals in Ireland & France.

French films on tour in Ireland!
March - April 2016
The French Embassy has teamed up with Access Cinema to present two French films across Ireland with over 30 screenings scheduled since January.
"Dans la cour/In the Courtyard" (2014) 
Directed by Pierre Salvadory, featuring Catherine Deneuve 
Antoine quits his rock band, takes a job caring for an old building in Paris, and develops a close friendship with a recently retired woman.

Festival
Conference with the Franco-Russian writer Andreï Makine
9 March 2016
Andreï Makine, born in 1957 in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, spent his childhood and teenage years in an orphanage, but was early introduced to the language of Molière by his grandmother, of French origin. After studying literature and many cooperative missions abroad, he left the Soviet Union at the age of 30 and moved to France, where he obtained political refugee status.
In 1995, it is the recognition of his talent, by three major French literary prizes, the Goncourt, the Medici and the Goncourt High Schoolers.

This conference analyses the role irreverence and other counter-discourse forms play in Irish culture, by subverting the consensual interpretation of history, of collective memory but also of existing social, political or economic standards and by representing an alternative to violence and domination.

An evening with Bernard Cerquiglini

Professor Bernard Cerquiglini is one of France's most distinguished  and popular linguists. Beside his academic career he also presents the iconic short program called Merci professeur! on TV5, the French-language global television network.

Symposium 
Wexford: from Gaelic Kingdom to Norman Landship
12-13 March 2016
A two-day symposium exploring Wexford’s transformation from Gaelic kingdom to Norman lordship. Conferences on Saturday and field trips on Sunday. A unique opportunity to hear from some of Ireland’s foremost historians and archaeologists, all in the very special setting of Ferns Castle Visitor Centre.

Hosted by The Ferns Heritage Project supported by  Wexford County Council.

Literature
Franco-Syrian Poetess Maram al-Masri @ the Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival 
13 March 2016
Born in Latakia in Syria, Maram al- Masri moved to Paris in 1982 after studying English literature at Damascus University. Currently she is devoted exclusively to writing, poetry and translation.

Today she is considered to be one of the most famous and exciting female voices of her generation.
Theo Dorgan, who translated her latest collection Barefoot Sools, will also be participating in the event.

Conference with the Haitian writer Louis-Philippe Dalembert
14 March 2016
Louis-Philippe Dalembert is a Haitian poet and novelist. He writes in both French and Haitian Creole. He is one of the most notable contemporary writers from Haiti. The idea of wandering and the reference to religious themes are quite characteristic of his work.
Translated in several languages, his work has been rewarded by numerous literary prizes.

France at Animation Dingle 2016
18-19 March 2016
For the first time, the French Embassy in Ireland has teamed up with Animation Dingle to present the French savoir-faire on animation.
The programme features a Retrospective from the worldwide known French Animation School, GOBELINS, L'école de l'Image, which will be introduced by Cécile Blondel, Head of International Relations, on March 19th. She will also take part in the Animation Dingle conference on the Colleges Get Creative panel on March 18th, 10:30.
In 2015 GOBELINS was ranked №1 Animation School worldwide by animationcareerreview.com

The French animation features Yellowbird will be presented by its director Christian de Vita, who will also take part in the Animation Dingle Conference on March 18th.

The "admission-postbac.fr" website is an online portal where Terminal Year students preparing the Leaving Certificate can apply to any French university, and many other higher education courses in France. Continuing Professional Development for French teachers
21-24 March 2016
The second 2016’s CPD training session organised by the French Embassy for secondary school teachers will take place in Cork, Limerick, Dublin and Carrick-On-Shannon from 21st to 24th March 2016.
This free session will be animated by Simon Flambeaux, French education expert, and will deal with "Theatre activities and technics to enhance the teaching-learning of foreign language in class".

Architecture Association of Ireland in partnership with the French Embassy presents a lecture by Laurent P. Berger, visual artist, and Cyrille Berger, architect, founders of the French architecture studio Berger & Berger.

Their work has featured in numerous international shows and exhibitions like the Villa Medici in Rome, the Watermill Centre in New York and the International Architecture Biennale in Venice, among others.

The latest on the music scene. This festival has made a name for itself over the decades as a major event when it comes to the French chanson and the latest on the music scene. Franco-Irish Literary Festival 2016
8,9 & 10 April 2016
The theme of the 17th edition of this annual festival, Food for thought - Les mots à la bouche - Lón anama, will be discussed by 15 Irish and French writers.

Roundtable discussions, readings, book sales and special perfomances will take place over this weekend in Dublin Castle (Castle Hall) and the Alliance Française.


This Festival is organised by the Alliance Française and the French Embassy.
