Lime Stabilised Subgrades

Winter is often wet and cold in the Southern States. Wet weather delays on new projects are often experienced. These delays are often easily avoided, or minimised through the use of lime stabilised subgrades.

Lime stabilisation, using Quicklime, produces an exothermic reaction during the slaking process. The quicklime reacts with the water, either available in the pavement or as added by a water cart to release a steam vapour and effectively produce hydrated lime. The hydrated lime reacts with the clay particles in the pavement to provide a pavement that is easier for construction traffic to access.
