Our President tells IPWEA what he thinks ...

Scott Young, AustStab President, has been working at promoting the benefits of pavement stabilisation and pavement recycling to IPWEA. In May 2012 he presented a paper at the IPWEA NSW Conference on sustainability in Coffs Harbour .

Scott's presentation presented a case study based on recent recycling in Campbelltown City Council, he highlighted a support for continued policy review by local government and provided seven key recommendations that AustStab believe will be mutually beneficial for local government, the general public and the stabilisation industry.

What testing is needed for rehabilitation of pavements?

Sometimes the design requirements for pavement rehabilitation and stabilisation can appear complex and confusing. End users are sometimes not certain where to find information about the pavement testing requirements for stabilised pavements.

Designs can be completed using an empirical approach or by a mechanistic analysis using such programs as CIRCLY. In 2011 AustStab released the Guide to Pavement Stabilisation, which includes sections on pavement analysis and testing. It also details what testing is required to ensure that the end user gets the best results from a new stabilised pavement.

Our geotechnical laboratories and consultant members stay up to date on the latest design and specifications relating to pavement stabilisation and rehabilitation. They are often a good place to start when considering a pavement analysis if the current technical skills are not possessed in house.
