ACE Expo - Melbourne Show Ground

AustStab participated in the ACE Expo at Melbourne Showground on 19 - 20 November. We welcomed discussion from Local Government representatives, contractors and even a few consultants. Our members fielded enquiries about introducing the benefits of stabilisation, the different types of binders, plant, accreditation and training in Stabilisation. Copies of the Guide were ordered, as well as enquiries about joining AustStab. Anthony Koch, from Hume Council was the winner of the lucky stall prize for AustStab.

Stabilisation - A sustainable solution

The 2015 edition of the Stabilisation Guide includes a section on sustainability of Stabilisation.

At AustStab, we support and endorse the three pillars of sustainability - economic, social and environmental costs. A detailed case study is included in the Guide, outlining and quantifying some of the real costs that can be allocated to this type of work. In the case study provided, the cost of providing a 335mm stabilised base course with a 50mm asphalt surfacing is about 30% of the price of producing a 520mm reconstructed granular pavement with an asphaltic concrete surface - which are pavement rehabilitation opens that provide a similar pavement life based on traffic volumes.

We encourage all consultants and designers to consider and explore the economic, social and environmental costs when specifying pavement design solutions.

AustStab welcomes Timberden Plant Hire to the contracting membership. Timberden Plant hire conduct full service and part service stabilised contracting services in Western Australia.
