The last few weeks have been bitterly cold and wet in the Southern States. During periods of extreme cold weather it is vital to ensure that the binders are fully hydrated before incorporating them into the pavement. Binder selection is an important consideration. Complying with specification's environmental conditions for ground temperatures and air temperatures is also important. Quicklime will generate heat in the pavement as part of the hydration process. Safety for all employees should also remain front of mind.

More information is available from AustStab members located throughout Australia.

Correction to last months newsletter: AustStab delivered the Roma course in conjunction with QTMR, not Roads and Maritime Services as reported. We delivered foamed bitumen workshops in conjunction with Roads and Maritime Services in Canberra.
