A message from the Manager

We hope you are all staying warm and healthy through this winter season.

Thank you to everyone who supported our annual fundraising appeal in June. Due to the generous support from local businesses, philanthropic funds, and private donations, our “No Place Like Home” campaign raised over $28,000. These donations will help fund Hospice in the Home and ensure local people have access to our free community service when impacted by a terminal or life limiting condition.

August is a busy month for Warrnambool & District Community Hospice as we work hard in the community to raise awareness of our Hospice in the Home program. If you have been been meaning to get involved with us in some way, then this month’s newsletter is full of great ideas. Whether you volunteer, advocate, donate or follow us on social media, every action makes a difference to local people trying to achieve their wish, or the wish of a loved one to spend their final days in the comfort of home.

Learn More About Hospice in the Home on Dying to Know Day
Monday 8 August 2022

This year Warrnambool & District Community Hospice will mark Dying to Know Day with a Community Information Evening. Locals of all ages and stages of life are encouraged to come along to learn more about our ground-breaking Hospice in the Home program.

Dying to Know Day, is a national campaign held on the 8th of August each year to empower Australians to live and die well. Led by the Groundswell Project, individuals and groups around the country will take action to destigmatise the subject of death, stimulate open conversations and foster community education.

The Community Information Evening will be held at Hospice House, Deakin University from 7pm on Monday 8 August 2022. This is a COVID safe event and numbers are limited. Bookings are essential and to register your attendance please email community@wdchospice.org.au or phone 03 5563 3220.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
Saturday 20 August 2022

Warrnambool & District Community Hospice are hosting our inaugural sausage sizzle fundraiser on Saturday 20 August 2022 at the Bunnings Warehouse Warrnambool Store, Corner Ragland Parade and Horne Road.

This is a great opportunity for us to help raise awareness and much needed funds. It’s also perfect timing to drop into Bunnings to purchase a Father’s Day present or get your garden ready for spring.

Come along, say hello and support us by purchasing your sausage and a cold drink!

Warrnambool Connect Volunteer Expo
Saturday 20 August 2022

After 2 years break, we are excited to be back at the 2022 Warrnambool Connect Volunteer Expo.

This is a brilliant opportunity for Warrnambool & District Community Hospice to showcase our Hospice in the Home volunteer role to a wide audience. The community event will include entertainment, door prizes and food available.

Volunteering in your local community has so many benefits including meeting new people, learning new skills and gaining a sense of purpose by making a difference in the lives of others.

If you, or someone you know is interested in volunteering, this is a great opportunity not to be missed. The 2022 Volunteer Expo will be held on Saturday 20 August from 10am to 2pm at the Emmanuel Centre.

Community Presentations

Are you involved with a community group or workplace that would benefit from learning more about Warrnambool & District Community Hospice? We love an opportunity to promote what we do and are happy to do presentations at meetings or events.
