We are more than halfway to our modest goal of raising $10,000 -- which will be doubled by Newsmax. Now is the time to put your money directly in the hands of investigative journalists seeking truth: holding the powerful to account; following the money; guarding democracy.
We know investigative journalism has all but vanished from the DC region – just as local budgets swell, spending is unwatched and patronage prevails. By contributing to SpotlightDC you can be part of the solution: Your donations will go to independent journalists pursuing projects that can protect the vulnerable and save lives. Together we can reinvigorate investigative reporting in the DMV.
As December 31 approaches, please join our community to put funds directly in the hands of reporters in the case of corruption, wasteful spending, and political shenanigans.
Here’s what we’ve done at
  • DC Evictions: supported Josh Kaplan’s award-winning investigation of fraud:
  • Waste Mismanagement: funded Cuneyt Dil’s expose’ of millions in “sweetheart” deals to private trash haulers.
  • Heat Islands: made grants to Hola Cultura, a Latino nonprofit that used mapping and data to show DC’s overheated neighborhoods.
And here’s what’s coming, thanks to your funds going to reporters:
  • Finding the truth about the fate of too many vulnerable children under the care of DC’s child welfare agency.
  • Exposing how developers use DC funds to profit while they provide substandard housing.
  • Probing the case of the Potomac River Rapist and how detectives brought him to justice.
Doubled by Newsmatch, your contributions will go directly to reporters with direct results.
Local watchdog journalism is on life support — let’s revive it together.
