Meeting ID: 832 6434 2478
Passcode: 957689

LCEO meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month, and we nearly always keep them to 45 minutes! Everyone is welcome!

At the next meeting...

We’ll be looking at how to move forward with our plans after leafleting various parts of the neighbourhood to engage with more people. That could include you!

Travel (x4)

(1) Have a look at our new website page with info about cycling in East Oxford!

And if you want to help us develop the LCEO website further, please email at
(2) Cyclox, the local cycling campaign, is a useful group to follow. They have monthly talks, currently on Zoom, to help us make sense of getting about. If you miss those, you can catch up on their YouTube channel.

(3) 15-Minute Cities survey:
The local Coalition for Healthy Streets and Active Travel is asking people about the amenities they have near their home and what they would like. This is part of a process of increasing active travel – being able to walk or cycle to these facilities, rather than getting in a car or on a bus. The results will be available for our community to use and to inform planning policy. They hope you will help by filling in the survey – it is quite short.

(4) Low Traffic Neighbourhoods: the postponed St Marys LTN, which would run between Cowley and Iffley Roads, from the Plain down to and including Howard St, is to be decided upon at the end of the year. From the County Council website:

"The closing date for receiving comments is Friday 26 November 2021.

Information on the proposed design changes is also published on the Active Travel pages of the county council website. Anonymised feedback will be reported to the Cabinet Member Decision meeting on 23 December 2021. Should it be agreed the scheme should go ahead, it is anticipated that it will be implemented in Spring 2022 under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order. This means that a statutory consultation period will run alongside implementation, and there will be a further chance to input your views."

Share your experiences of eco retrofitting!

We're still planning to run another knowledge-sharing event, about improving domestic energy use! Do get in touch if you want answers to tricky issues, or have solutions.
We've already heard about some great projects on fairly modern properties and some new-builds in the area, but we'd also really love to have input from people with experience working with Victorian terraces (which are so abundant here), and also anyone with info about local suppliers, and grants available for the work. Is this you? Or your neighbour? Get in touch! (by replying to this email)

Food Waste (x2)

(1) Storing food well
If you’re unsure of where your food needs to be kept, check this A-Z list. Don’t let those spuds go green!

We’re keen to address food waste locally – shall we have a session about it?
(2) Oxford Food Hub goes electric!
You may have seen a new van collecting and delivering food waste locally – it’s the first in the Oxford Food Hub’s fleet to go electric! The Hub ( previously known as the Oxford Food Bank ) collect or are given tons of potentially wasted food yearly and get it to where it’s really needed, alleviating food poverty, reducing food waste and saving many organisations tons of money too. Check them out!

Repair – next Repair Cafes plus regular weekly Fix-It Café in Headington

No Repair Cafes in E Oxford as yet (do you want to help organise one?) – so meanwhile, it’s good to know about the ones that are happening not far away.

Next Rose Hill Repair Café is on Saturday 4th Dec 10am - 12:30 at Rose Hill Community Centre.

Next Share Oxford Repair Café is on Sunday November 28th at Makespace 1 Aristotle Lane, Oxford, OX2 6TP. They say: by holding it then we will be protesting in our own way against the previous ‘Black Friday’ and celebrating that Saturday 27th Nov is ‘Buy Nothing Day’.

Every Tuesday 10 – 12 there’s a Fix-It Café at the Headington Community Centre, Gladstone Road, Headington (off the London Road, past the shops and before you reach the big roundabout.) Like other Repair Cafes, they don’t promise to fix your stuff but they’ll give small items a go. Free drinks and parking. Check with Barbara on 07792491350 about what to bring.

Tree Planting

Our neighbouring Rose Hill and Marston groups are planting trees on a scale we can only dream of round here. Go along in support during National Tree week:

Rose Hill and Iffley Low Carbon say:
Join us on Saturday 27th 11:30am till 1:30pm to plant trees and care for those already planted. Rose Hill Recreation ground near Spencer Crescent. See their lovely poster here.
Marston Community Gardening say:
Sunday 21 November: Work party to take care of the trees at Croft Rd recreation ground. Come armed with buckets and shovels at 10am, to weed, mulch and replace stakes/guards. The trees will thank you for it!

Saturday 27 November: Mass tree planting, starting at 10am at Oxsrad, near the ring road, Court Place Farm, Marsh Lane, Marston OX3 0NQ

And nearer to home, look out for changes in Meadow Lane, if planting proposals go ahead, and people making some noise about the felled beech on Iffley Rd. See the Iffley Fields Res Assosication (IFRA)

And lastly, Window Wanderland

This lovely street project is happening in Rose Hill, Florence Park, and a few streets in East Oxford. Maybe your street can too? Watch this short video to get the idea and see if you and your neighbours fancy having a go too!

Can you put something in your window?  Can be lights, or pictures or both! Get creative and make something?  The theme for the festival is the 'Art of Connectivity’ (connections with each other, our environment, nature, the seasons...) Please send us pictures if you have a go and we can put them in the next newsletter!
Cheerio for now!

It's good to be connected. Get in touch about any of the above,

Best wishes,
The Low Carbon East Oxford Team
