Meeting ID: 819 2488 8213
Passcode: 45491

LCEO meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month, and we nearly always keep them to 45 minutes!  Everyone is welcome!

At the next meeting...

We'll be organising how to spread our brand new leaflet around the immediate area  - leafletters still very welcome to present themselves! - and making sure we can galvanise people to join in with the Rally & March on Sat 6th Nov - see below. We'll also talk about local tree planting!

Manzil Way Rally/March to Broad Street for COP26

Saturday 6th November Oxford is gathering! This is part of the international push to alert those meeting in Glasgow that we need them to do the right thing!
Meet at Manzil Way off the Cowley Road for 1pm - with banners and whatever you'd like to find there - and if you can, march to Broad Street, where there'll be music and speeches and a LOT of people!
In the morning people are also being encouraged to do something in their neighbourhood. The idea is that at 11am people across the county organise a group wherever they are to stand up with a suitable banner or similar about Climate Justice, take a photo, share it widely on social media, send it to the Prime Minister, and add it to an online display wall. People can do this outside a community centre, college, or faith building, or on a village green, or in front of an Oxfordshire landmark , or at a campaign focused site e.g. Barclays Bank.
Plans are still very fluid - keep up with them here:

Share your experiences of eco retrofitting!

LCEO is planning another knowledge-sharing event, and this time the topic is retrofitting East Oxford homes. We've already heard about some great projects on fairly modern properties and some new-builds in the area, but we'd also really love to have input from people with experience working with Victorian terraces (which are so abundant here), and also anyone with info about local suppliers, and grants available for the work. Is this you? Or your neighbour? Get in touch! (by replying to this email)

Can you help make this newsletter?

Do you love getting the word out about low carbon living?  Do you know your way round Mailchimp, or would you like to learn? We're looking for help putting this newsletter together as our regular volunteer is having to take a break.  If you think you might be interested in getting involved then we'd love to hear from you!  You can get in touch by hitting 'reply' on this email.

Oxfordshire Pumpkin Festival

It's the time of year to eat pumpkins, not just carve them! Check out the Pumpkin Festival:

The Festival's aim is to “Squash food waste” by encouraging people to eat rather than discard their Halloween pumpkin’s flesh. The message is simple:

Carve it, Cook it, Eat it – Don’t bin it!
The Oxfordshire Pumpkin Festival is a celebration of food: creatively encouraging people to think about the food they throw away, challenging preconceptions and teaching new skills.

Alongside it is a mini Library of Things  to borrow from. Go along and check it out! https://shareoxford.org/catalogue-2/ for the main Library of Things in Jericho.

Quickways consultation extended until Oct 31

We mentioned this in the previous newsletter and you may have since also seen a leaflet about these traffic proposals. They aim to ease cycling along main road in Oxford, with Cowley and Iffley Roads most relevant for us. The survey - link below - gives you a chance to convey your travel habits and hopes. It now runs to the end of October.

You can also email the planners directly at quickways@Oxfordshire.gov.uk

If you want to read some analysis of these proposals Danny Yee's post, written from the perspective of supporting the need to increase active travel, is available here.

Disruptive Mending Groups - the next stage!

Stitch it Don’t Ditch it!

A new Oxford contact for this clothes-mending street project is Jane Carey, who discovered the idea through our last newsletter! Hooray! Contact her to discover what could be coming together locally: janecarey [at] gmail.com

In high streets across the UK and around the world, people form lines of chairs along the centre of their high streets to sit and mend. Each Street Stitcher has a hand made chair-banner with the hashtag #stitchitdontditchit and a QR code linking to free online repair demos for anyone interested.

New government strategies on energy and heating homes

We promised to keep you posted about the government's new strategies on energy and home heating, so here is what National Energy Action thinks about these proposals:

Cheerio for now!

That's it for this month's newsletter. We hope to see you at our next meeting or on November 6th somewhere in the neighbourhood, and here's to a constructive and helpful COP 26 in Glasgow!

Do get in touch  about anything you read here and any possibilities for further local activity. You're very welcome to be part of this group. Send us an email to
togethr@lceo.org.uk - we'd love to hear from you.

Best wishes,
