From the President...

Where has the season gone? With only 2 rounds to go, this is a question I get asked a lot, and my response is - "I am so thankful we have got through this season and that we have enjoyed getting back to playing The World Game and engaging with this awesome community.

Speaking of 'awesome community' - what a fantastic Big Freeze Event last Saturday! It was so good to see so many get involved and take the plunge into the ice-cold water - THANK YOU to all of you and THANK YOU to all of you who sponsored us - we have raised OVER $12,000 for FightMND. How amazing is that?

A huge THANK YOU also to Michael Vanderwal who inspired our club to get behind this event and also Stephen Mawson and Michael who setup the slide and ensured it was all safe for us sliders - THANKS GUYS!

If you would like to see some photos of the event please click on the button to the right and there will be more to come:

Tomorrow (Saturday 27 August) there will be a limited canteen running as there are only a handful of games and KickStart going on at Knox Park - please note that for tomorrow ONLY the canteen will be serving Hot-Dogs and Bacon & Egg Rolls, as well as drinks....  there will be a break from the fired stuff!!

Just a quick heads-up regarding next Saturday 3 September....  we have a big day at Knox Park for the final round of the season - there will be 8 junior games commencing at 8.45am, the final KickStart session at 9.30am and then 9 senior games - 3 at 1pm, 3 at 3pn and 3 at 5pm. Our canteen will be running all day and there will be a lot of fun to be had...  PLEASE plan on being around Knox Park for longer than just your game!

Also don't forget to please consider if you would like to invest in our club and to become part of our committee - NO-ONE is under qualified and NO-ONE is not ready to take this on...  Please speak to me if you would like to know more.

Could you all please take a look at the LOST PROPERTY that is building up in the clubrooms - I cannot believe some of the items that are in there - if we held a sale it may just be the next biggest fundraiser  The box will either be outside the clubrooms on matchdays or in the main clubroom on training evenings.

I hope you have all penciled in the dates for our presentation events and we are looking forward to CELEBRATING season 2022 with you.

As always stay well and FINISH STRONG.

Blessings

Generousity and Unity

What a blast it was last Saturday! A blast of cold weather combined with a blast of courage and action from the individuals who took the plunge in support of the MND ‘Big Freeze’ fundraiser at KCSC.

Participants from 16 teams took the plunge into icy cold water, amongst hilarity and smiles, despite the cold weather. As well as this, our president Johann and life member Mick Vanderwal bravely slid down that slippery slide. Our Pres was dressed as Elvis Presley with a magnificent outfit and even a song to boot! Mick Vanderwal dressed as….why don’t you ask him if you weren’t there?😊

Those who didn’t physically take the plunge participated by actively encouraging each participant as they went down the slide. And others still contribute by giving generously. So generously that the club has raised just over $12,000 !!!! What a superb effort!!! I believe that this amounts close to that of the money raised at the trivia night. Perhaps it was a little more or less, but you get the idea: our club members rally together to be a true community that also loves to care for others.

Last week I wrote about how out club aims not only to look after its own, but that it also looks to share with others. To have similar amounts raised for both the running of the club as well as supporting those who are traveling an incredibly difficult journey of MND, is an amazing effort!
To me it really exemplifies that many of us love to live by the premise to ‘do unto others as you would have done to you’ (Matthew 7.12) and ‘ love your neighbour as yourself’(Mark 12.31)  which is what Jesus desires of us. That besides loving  God  with all our being, we must also love our neighbour as ourselves. Seeing the amounts of money raised are about the same, this really reflects what we believe our Lord has asked of us.

You see, when you love God and put Him above your own self, you come to see both yourself and others in a different light. You see others as no different than yourself, all equally loved by God. And in our response of gratitude to God we love to honour Him by doing our best to love others. This includes being respectful, selfless, show integrity and support and live in (comm)unity with each other. The evidence of this has been realised through the amazing support we showed last week for the fundraiser, but also in many other instances both on and off the field.

Just as many of our players adhere to these values, our committee, and other prominent active members in the club show their commitment by bringing these into reality through their physical participation, support and encouragement of the club. May I encourage everyone to finish the season in this spirit of unity…

I feel both honoured and blessed to be associated with a club such as this. Thank you to everyone who makes the values of our club come true. You are what makes this club KCSC!

Being Healthy is Lifestyle!

I’ve been a bit bothered by the often incorrect representation of “health” that is portrayed by our media! Being healthy is so much more than having a 6-pack, or being able to run really fast or simply the absence of disease and illness.

Being healthy is about pursuing a lifestyle that means we are operating at our very best. Exercising regularly and sustaining a healthy diet are fundamental parts of that and most of us understand well the importance of those (the execution of good exercise and diet habits might be a different story though!!). Yet there are other elements of a healthy lifestyle that our culture tends to gloss over all too quickly. Regular and good quality sleep is crucial to operating at your best. Maintaining excellent hydration. Reducing or avoiding “unhealthy” habits like alcohol, smoking and dependence on medication and drugs.

However physical health is not optimised without good mental health, social health and spiritual health – all of which need to be exercised and nurtured! Whilst areas such as mental health are not my specialty as a physiotherapist, too often I see poor mental health influencing someone’s physical health in adverse ways.

So treat this as a good reminder to be looking after all elements of your health - especially as we near the end of our season and we move into our "off-season"!
