Community Groups start the week of September 17th
Benjamin Kandt, Director of Communities
Community Groups (CGs) are integral to making whole-life disciples for their callings to see our communities flourish through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Community Groups have been at the heart of our church since its inception. There is no better way to be woven into the relational fabric of NewCity than by getting connected to a Community Group. Community Groups consist of 12-20 adults gathering together for the purpose of cultivating co-mission, connection, and care.

Community Groups cultivate co-mission by supporting one-another in bearing witness to Jesus through word and deed wherever we live, work, learn, & play. Community Groups structure co-mission by helping us to imaginatively and prayerfully envision our communities afresh in light of the coming Kingdom of God. Community Groups support co-mission because when our neighbors see the gospel transform the lives of a community it makes it more believable (community apologetic). Finally, Community Groups challenge mission by stirring and encouraging us to show the gospel in works, and tell the gospel in words.

Community Groups cultivate connection by welcoming one-another to belong in community and be woven into the relational fabric of the church. We experience connection to Christ as we participate together in practices of word and prayer. We experience connection to community as we participate together in practices of knowing and loving one another. We experience connection to the congregation of NewCity as we are looped into the life of the church and transition from referring to NewCity as “you and they” to “we and us”.

Community Groups cultivate care by contributing to one another’s flourishing through prayerful love. Community Groups care for one another by exercising the "one-another" commands of Scripture (e.g. "Bear one another's burdens” - Galatians 6:2). Community Groups are a place for intentionality to know, love, and pray for one another. Finally, Community Groups care for one another by practicing and participating in biblical love and unity (John 13:35, 17:21).

In light of all of this, we believe it is essential for the adults of our congregation to belong to and participate in a Community Group. All Community Groups officially launch the week of September 17th.
