At NewCity, we believe that giving is an act of worship. We do not give to God because he needs it nor to earn his favor - rather, we give to God in response to his extravagant generosity to us in Christ. “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17). When we give to God from our first-fruits, the best and first of what God has given to us, we proclaim in an act of worship that everything we have comes from God, and everything we have belongs to God. We are givers because we are made in the image of the great Giver who withholds nothing from his children he loves. God’s sacrificial giving to us is so rich and so deep that he even “gave his one and only Son” (John 3:16) - the ultimate gift.
In the gospel we are reminded that Christ, “though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich” (2 Cor. 8:9). When we view giving as an act of worship through the lens of the gospel we are liberated from our concerns over wealth and possessions and we are moved to a gospel-driven joy and generosity to invest in the eternal Kingdom of God.
We are called to be gospel-driven stewards of the gifts God has given us not only as individuals but also as a church body. God has been gracious in providing for the many needs of NewCity throughout our 11 year history as a church. In 2018, NewCity has 220 giving units supporting the church in its worship and work and advancing our mission of making whole-life disciples for their callings. The Elders and Deacons of NewCity labor together to steward our ministry resources to effectively equip the saints for the work of ministry and humbly submit to the Holy Spirit as we pursue our vision to see our communities flourish through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In addition to the finance update we are providing here, we will be providing weekly updates on our tithes and offerings throughout the month of December.
We are grateful for your faithful and ongoing support of the worship and work of NewCity. It is our hope and prayer that we at NewCity would be gospel-driven givers and that guided by the Holy Spirit, the leaders of NewCity would increasingly steward our God given resources to see His Kingdom advance in our communities and beyond.
