For those taking the bus, it will depart at 9:30 am from the Pinecrest Shopping Centre IKEA store parking lot. The bus returns to Ottawa Friday 10 July 12:00 noon.
Feel free to have a visit while you are here at camp dropping off your campers. We do request that you leave as close to noon as possible so that we can start our lunch and the afternoon programs. Sometimes it is difficult for campers and parents to say goodbye. Experience has shown us many times that the sooner kids can integrate into their cabin group under the supervision of their counsellors the easier it is to quickly transition to camp.
What to expect during drop-off
- You will be asked to "check-in" upon arrival before you park.
- Staff will meet you at the parking area in the main field and we will connect staff and campers as quickly as possible and get luggage moved to cabins.
- Our nurse "Bandaid" will be at the Infirmary and available to talk with you about specific health issues of your camper and accept meds you need to drop off.
- If you would like to leave any letters or you have questions regarding your account, Scotia our Assistant Director will be in the office to help.
- Our new Kitchen Manager "Northstar" and Assistant Manager "Ludwig" will be in the kitchen if you need to drop off any food items for dietary needs and/or discuss allergy issues.
The Tuc Shop will be open if you wish to purchase some camp clothing and maple syrup. You can access the order form through the website and pre-order items then pick them up upon opening day. You can also shop for clothing item when here.
Communicating with Campers
With the ease of instant communication today, it can be difficult for both parents and campers to have less frequent communications. Our policy is that cell phones are not allowed leaving the option of sending letters by snail mail or sending "Bunk Notes" through our camper email partner Bunk1.
Bunk1 provides the option of a one-way, parent to camper email service. Below is the information you will need to reactivate your account or open a new account for new camp families. We encourage parents to send snail mail, leave prewritten letters with us on opening day or utilize the email service. If you have concerns about how your child is settling at camp, feel free to email or call the office directly.
Information about Bunk1
We are very excited about the newest member of the staff team, Trigger our camp dog. He is 1.5 year old lab mix and loves people big and small. He is a great fit at camp and as with our past dogs (Burt and Pepper) we are anticipating that he will have tremendous therapeutic value for those camper that may be missing home or missing their own pets.
Thank you to those families who were able to make a donation to the Otterdale "Send a Kid to Camp" program during the registration process. Through this program we have been able to assist 8 campers thus far to attend camp this year.
Thank you to those families who referred other families to Otterdale. If you are not aware of the Referral Program there are details on the Otterdale website....."When a referral results in a new camper attending camp, both families will receive a $150.00 rebate/camper. Rebates will be credited at the end of the summer after camp or you can contribute your rebate to our "Send a Kid to Camp" program."
To enjoy Otterdale camp life from afar, we will continue to post pictures and stories on Facebook and Instagram throughout each session. So "like" us on Facebook and "Follow" us on Instagram. Have a look at our Leadership Team staff profiles!
JUL A is "Everything Elvis".
JUL B is "We're Going to the Movies"
Pack those costumes, simple and fun!
School at Camp....are you kidding!
New this year is our Alumni-in-Residence program and we are very excited to welcome "Nova" back to camp. She will be joining us for the AUG A session bringing extensive camp and teaching experience. Nova was a camp counsellor for 4 years and has stayed connected to the camping world over the years. She is currently the principal of Ditidaht Community School in rural British Columbia and completing her Master's of Education through Vancouver Island School. Nova is excited to be returning to summer camp once again.
To enrich the camp program, we will be offering a Language Arts program under Nova's leadership to help campers get a "leg-up" to "catch-up" or further their English as a Second Language training.
If you are interested in having your camper participate in an individualized Language Arts program to compliment there summer camp experience, simply contact the office and we will start customizing. Campers participating in the program will have one period a day structured for their program.
Hope to see you soon.
