Greetings of the Season Camp Otterdale Friends and Families!

There was a distinctive snow chill to the air as we took a brisk walk around camp this morning. A thin layer of ice has covered the “canoe bay” on Otter Lake and is beginning to stretch along the shoreline outward.  Just past the swim area, floating and bobbing in the small rippling waves was an expanding gathering of Canada Geese.  It is an annual stop, sometimes for more than a few flocks at a time, to assemble, to discuss the flight plan with one another, in order to prepare for their journey south. Their honks were loud and plenty! We were lucky to catch this sight.  They will leave soon as the ice on the lake will spread and thicken. Then it will be our turn to use it!   Bring on the snowshoes and kite skis for our own winter adventures!
We’ve decorated the Health Centre for Christmas with pine and cedar greenery, birch, a touch of sparkly red ribbons, and a host of candles.  It looks very different than it does in the summer, but it continues to be a hub of activity, and people visiting, with a touch of “home.”  Music in the background……as we tackle various tasks and projects! As you all know, the Camp O list of “To Do’s” is an ever-evolving, always surprising list that keeps us busy and focused on both the here and now AND next summer! So what’s new and newsy?

We are thrilled to see so many returning families and new families signing their children up for Camp O, 2019!  Camp Sessions are filling up quickly, so please register soon in order to ensure you can secure a spot in the session of your choice!

It’s the time of year for good talks about all things CAMP with our Staff from last summer as we begin to form a new team for the Spring and Summer of 2019! Like every year, some individuals move onto other pursuits.  It’s never easy to step away from a place they have been attending…..some since THEY were Kittens and Bantams! They always belong!  We look forward to helping them with their transition and welcoming them to our Alumni group. We also look forward to working with the folks who will be returning and assuming roles and responsibilities that they have been training to take on!

We look forward to introducing you to them in the New Year!

New Website!

Muskie has recently been working with Candybox Marketing to design a new website for Camp Otterdale. It will include information for first-time folks to updates and links for all families through newsletters, and blogs. There will also be a special section for Alumni!  We look forward to launching it in February!

Where are They Now?

New to our newsletter will be a regular piece on Camp Otterdale Alumni Staff!  Our Otterdale “reach” extends around the world, with folks involved in a wide variety of careers and adventures!  Our First shout out goes to:

After two years as the full-time Assistant Director at Camp Pinecrest, Scotia has just taken on the role of Camp Director!

With her trusty canine assistant Ellie (also a Camp Otterdale alumni), Scotia is responsible for leading and guiding 140 summer staff and overseeing the safety, well-being of as well as the programming for over 300 campers per session! What a feat!

We are very proud of Scotia and are super happy that Scotia is in a position perfect for her skills and enthusiasm.  Her passion for the camp world and for children knows no bounds.  To use a Maritime term, “the very best,” Scotia! Sail on!
We want to wish you and your family a beautiful holiday season.  May you enjoy time with the people in your life who matter the most to you, sharing stories from the year, old memories that bind you together, laughter of life’s funny moments, while making fresh moments that touch your heart.  We will be doing the same!

Until the New Year,

Captain and Muskie
