Greetings Camp Otterdale Friends and Families!
The days are sunny and shorter, the falling leaves are turning colour, much to Trigger’s entertainment and delight! He loves to chase them! Otter Lake has cooled off enough that the morning Polar Dip is over until next spring, though that doesn’t stop us from taking the Mystic for a sail or enjoy a paddle on a very quiet lake! The fall work crew, including Flik, Simba, Cassidy, and “alumni” Dr. Biftek and Duke, along with my sons, Elwood and Ludwig joined Muskie and I to work on a few projects and to meet and greet the Fall groups.
We hosted our first Family Camp, partnering with Camp 10 Oaks, welcomed the Grade 7 Ashbury College classes for their annual team building activities, enjoyed a full-on day and evening with the University of Ottawa Medical residents, and worked up to the crescendo of hosting the Carleton Place High School Band for their annual fall weekend gathering! It's been a fun-filled busy time since we said goodbye to our staff and campers! It was a pleasure to welcome them all, and to introduce them to our camp community!
Blessed with fantastic weather, Camp Otterdale was the place to be! But as we said goodbye to the last fall group of campers, we suddenly found Camp Otterdale quiet except for the busy woodland animals preparing for the winter. Like all transitions, it takes a while to get used to. As we shift into Autumn gear, we welcome the opportunity to reflect on a fabulous Summer of 2017 and are left with so many beautiful memories! The accumulated growth in all of us, including a broadened awareness of nature, new development of friendships, new and strengthened lifelong skills……..from the spontaneous dance fest after Air Bands, to the joyful singsongs in the Dining Hall …… from the awesome starry nights we stopped to appreciate, to a crazy Mudfest in the middle of rainy day…… Overnights, canoe trips, swimming before breakfast, campfires, creating plays, art, and skits….. Our collective memories amount to more than the number of falling leaves at Camp Otterdale. We thank you all for taking part in our Summer 2017 adventures!
