New Beginnings

After much consideration, consultation, discussion, and reflection, the Mount Shasta Martial Arts Program is moving out of its studio at 612-A S. Mt. Shasta Blvd. and moving everything into its virtual studio. We invite you to join us as we expand our online activities.

This decision does not mean that MSMAP is ceasing its activities or dissolving as an entity. It simply means that MSMAP is doing what it's always done: adapting as needed to provide educational, productive, safe martial arts activities.

And, in mid-2020, the emphasis on "safe" is more important than ever.

With record numbers of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations happening right now, MSMAP is more convinced than ever that this pandemic is a long way from being over. Just in the past week, a surge is happening in NorCal counties. Since a wider re-opening over Memorial Weekend, numbers have gone up even here in Jackson, Shasta, and Siskiyou Counties.

Our guiding principles in this matter are:

• COVID-19 is a highly infectious virus and could potentially remain a danger to the collective health of our community for the next 6 to 12 months.

• Communities opening up without following safety guidelines — especially *EVERYONE* wearing masks and practicing strict physical distancing — allow the virus to spread quite easily. Much too easily.

This simple lesson is taught throughout the country: getting together without masks and physical distancing results in the rapid spread of COVID-19.

Rather than risk the health, diminish the comfort, and test the patience of our participants throughout this pandemic by hosting questionably safe and equally questionable studio training experiences, the MSMAP Board of Directors and instructors are committed to taking the entire program online.

This decision is definitely something we never imagined making as the year began and is a decision we hoped we wouldn't have to make as the virus spread. But, the full transition to online activities is the responsible, necessary decision in our COVID world.

Eventually, this crisis will end. And, when it does and it's safe to get together at a later date, we plan to resume in-person activities. Until then, we look forward to your joining us online.
