Mount Shasta Martial Arts Program
Happy New Year from MSMAP

We hope the start to 2020 is the beginning of a fantastic year of health and prosperity. Speaking of health, the beginning of the New Year is an ideal time to reaffirm your commitment to yourself and/or your family whether as an MSMAP participant, supporter, or both. MSMAP offers a unique training program to not only attain exceptional martial arts skills but also get into incredible shape and develop the ability to meet challenges like a boss with confidence and intelligence.

Here's a few reminders on how to get 2020 off to a great start:

1) Identify Your Goals.  Decide what you want to accomplish over the next 12 months. Make it something that makes you jump out of bed in the morning and gives you energy every time you think about it. Write it down. Read it over and over. Own it. Live it.

2) Set Your Schedule.  Be firm with yourself and commit to your training: pick your days to show up and show up. Success is not an accident; it is all about planning and preparation.

3) Be Persistent.  Talking and wishing about what you're going to do doesn't work. Showing up every once in awhile doesn't work. Success requires consistent, repeated effort again and again and again. Follow through on the commitment to yourself: stick to your schedule and get time on the mat.

After nearly two decades in Mount Shasta, MSMAP knows a little about success. It's no lie: productive action guided by thoughtful, inspired planning ensures that the community continues to benefit from our many decades of knowledge and experience. We encourage you to also reach for remarkable long-term goals on and off the mat in 2020.

Progress comes to those who train and train; reliance on secret techniques will get you nowhere.”

U.C. Open: this is a fantastic opportunity to test taekwondo skills in both forms and sparring. It's open for all ages and ranks. MSMAP has participated in this event for the past 14 years. Note that this event is a requirement for the next promotion exam for green belts and above.

U.C. Yongmudo Championships: Put your yongmudo skills to the test. Intermediate/Advanced ranks have four rounds to test kicks/punches, throws, and groundwork. Beginners — including taekwondo participants — have two rounds to test their skills and enthusiasm for wrestling and kicks/punches. And, yes, participating in this event is a requirement for the next promotion exam for green belts and above.

KMASC45: Grandmaster Larry Duke and the University of California at Berkeley Martial Arts Program again offer a chance to train in several martial arts and meet people from around the world on and off the mat at the 45th Korean Martial Arts Summer Camp.
