Welcome to A&SoF. A&SoF is an e-newsletter, managed by BHS, with its sole purpose to enhance the filtration knowledge of the marketplace to solve actual plant problems. This is year number 6 for the newsletter and we will continue to work diligently for a “true” newsletter containing technical articles and ideas from many authors in the industry.

In keeping with our mission of providing a “true” newsletter, first, you will see a new photo. I was meeting a customer in a Charlotte hotel lobby for an initial visit for lab testing at BHS and he did not recognize me; hence, the new photo.

Secondly, the BHS laboratory is now fully-functional in our facility being managed by Garrett Bergquist, our Lab & Pilot Filtration Testing Engineer.

Next, please see a new book publication “Practical Guides of Chemical Engineering: Solid-Liquid Filtration Handbook” authored by Barry A. Perlmutter.

Finally, BHS, over the past several years, has been asked by the marketplace for technical and hands-on training for solid-liquid filtration. BHS is meeting the needs by organizing the initial Solid-Liquid Filtration Workshop. Please see the Workshop announcement described below. This will be an important benefit to the industrial community.

I hope that you find A&SoF useful and informative. Your comments, ideas and suggestions for future issues are much appreciated. You can now follow A&SoF on Facebook Facebook; please visit our page and soon on our "blog." If you missed any of the issues, please click on the following link: A&SoF, to view them. We look forward to your continued input and wish all of our readers a successful and healthy 2014.

Featured Problem Solving Technical Articles

Solid-Liquid Filtration covers the basic principles and mechanisms of filtration, filtration testing including filter aids and filter media, types of filtration systems, selection of filtration systems and typical operating and troubleshooting approaches. This guide also discusses general applications and tips for process filtration and can be utilized by process engineers as a framework for “idea-generation” when analyzing filtration for an operating bottleneck issue or a new process development problem.

In this 2-day course, 12-13 May 2015, you’ll learn about the science of filtration, filtration technology and how to apply it. This workshop will cover pressure and vacuum filtration theory, hands-on filtration testing, process troubleshooting and much more!

BHS Testing Laboratory

BHS announces the new and expanded testing laboratory in our facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. Capabilities include pressure and vacuum testing, cake washing, drying (blowing, pressing and vacuum), filter media selection, conductivity measurements, filter aid selection and other quality testing. Reaction/precipitation studies with our partner, CHD Technologies Inc., followed by filtration analyses can also be conducted.
