Highlights on

Danish students demonstrating against cutbacks

Danish writer and poet, H.C. Andersen, saying that "The Ugly Duckling would never become a swan with those big cutbacks".Throughout the recent years, education in Denmark has faced cutbacks on administration and purchases, which has lead to a worrisome decrease of funding for each student by approximately 500€. The problem is that even though the cutbacks were meant only to be on the administration area, the schools have been cutting also in trainings and preparation for teachers, leading to lesser feedback and less well-prepared lessons.

Shaping the European Youth Event – EYE

EYE logoIn May 2016, there will be a new edition of the European Youth Event (EYE), a huge event in which 7000 young people will come to Strasbourg, France to organise and take part in various activities. It is organised by the European Parliament with the European Youth Forum as the main partner. Read more >>>

Activate young people from rural areas: interesting project in Serbia

On the 10th and 11th of October, Board member Giuseppina represented OBESSU in the final conference of the project “Active Rural Youth, the potential for the development of rural communities”. The location was the beautiful mountain of Kopaonik in Serbia. This project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the Ibar Development Association (IDA) together with several partners, including OBESSU Member Organisation Unija srednjoskolaca Srbije (UNSS). #ESC30: time for student centred learning!

ESC30 1From the 28th to the 30th of September OBESSU participated in the 30th European Student Convention organised by our partner organisation the European Students Union (ESU). ESU aims to represent and promote the educational, social, economic and cultural interests of students at the European level towards all relevant bodies and in particular the European Union, Bologna Follow Up Group, Council of Europe and UNESCO. Through its members, ESU represents over 15 million students in Europe. Read more >>>

Convention on Welfare, Wellbeing and Social Autonomy for School Students

Convention prep-team agenda 2In OBESSU we are getting organised for the upcoming Convention on Welfare, Wellbeing and Social Autonomy for School Students that will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from the 2nd to the 8th November 2015. Last weekend, the preparatory team (prep-team) had its first meeting to finalise the objectives, prepare the programme and to start planning the different sessions for the event. Read more >>>

Coming soon: the new Manual for School Students!

Wondering about the developments of the work OBESSU is doing to revise the “old” Manual for School Students? Jooa, Natasa, Pina and Florian – the Working Group members – together with Giorgio from the OBESSU Secretariat met in Prague on the 26th and 27th of September 2015 in order to finalise the draft version of the new Manual and plan the further steps.

OBESSU – The Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions is the platform for cooperation between the national school student unions active in general secondary and secondary vocational education in Europe. It was founded in April 1975 in Dublin, Ireland and brings together Member, Candidate and Affiliate Organisations from around 20 European countries. All Member Organisations are independent, national, representative and democratic school student organisations.
