Extraordinary GA welcomes new Members to the OBESSU team

Extraordinary General Assembly (GA) was held on 1st of August in Mollina, Spain. As a result of an efficient GA OBESSU now has one new Board Member, one new Member of the Monitoring Committee and one new Member Organisation. Read more »

Call for Members of the Working group on School Students’ Structure Development

OBESSU has opened the call for applications for Members of the Working group on School Students’ Structure Development (SSSD). The Working Group focuses for example on empowering the student population in Europe and promoting and encouraging participation of students through democratically elected, representative and independent national school student organisations.

The deadline for applications is 15th of August 2012 midnight (CET). Read more »

DGS summer school: OBESSU as 'Organising Bureau of European School Student Unicorns'

OBESSU's Member Organisation Danske Gymnasieelevers Sammenslutning (DGS) held a summer school in Store Heddinge (Denmark) and around 30 board members and members of the DGS‘s secretariat participated. Thanks to invitation from Malene Nyborg (chairperson of DGS) OBESSU was asked to hold a workshop, facilitated by OBESSU Board member Daša Koribaničová. Read more »


OBESSU's fact sheet about the Cypriot Presidency

On the 1th of July, the Cypriot Government took over the EU Council‘s Presidency from Denmark. In general, in the field of education, the Cypriot Presidency will focus on the social dimension of this field, through the modernization of education and training systems with the provision of more qualitative and equitable education.  OBESSU has prepared a Fact Sheet Cypriot Presidency for you to consult. If you want to write about a VET-related topic, send your article to our VET Officer Tiia! The length and shape of the posts if free, as long as it concerns VET on some level (also apprenticeships/traineeships/other parts of VET are accepted as topics). Besides texts, also videos and pictures are welcome!

UN stresses the importance of youth

500 delegates gathered in New York earlier this week for the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) High-level Segment. Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus George Papageorgiou urged delegates to consider youth in their discussions: “We must increase and actively support opportunities for young people to gain access to productive employment and decent work, including investment in education and vocational training 500 delegates gathered in New York earlier this week for the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) High-level Segment. Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus George Papageorgiou urged delegates to consider youth in their discussions. "It's about ability" -campaign promotes sports for all children

On July 22, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon visited Montenegro. His wife, Mrs. Ban Soon-teak, joined young Paralympic athletes Marijana Goranovic and Ilija Tadic, UNICEF Montenegro Representative Benjamin Perks and other prominent politicians in launching the new “It’s About Ability’’ campaign TV commercial. Online Survey - Seeking Youth Inputs for Secretary General's Youth Initiative

The United Nations is developing a System-Wide Action Plan on Youth that will affect the way the UN will work with and for youth in the future. Before developing this Action Plan, the United Nations is reaching out to youth, youth-led organizations and others for their inputs. The online questionnaire is open until 15th August and available in all UN six official languages. Read more »

It was founded in April 1975 in Dublin, Ireland and brings together member and observer organisations from more than 20 European countries.
