Chamber Happenings

Dear TACC Members,

During the month of March, we had the pleasure of hosting our annual "Best of Business Awards Dinner". This evening allows us to showcase the success of area business leaders, businesses, and organizations.

There were over 130 people in attendance, which goes to show the level of support that we have from the community and from across the county. The Tuscarora region is truly a special place. Attendees included: Congressman Bill Shuster, Representative Jesse Topper, Representative Adam Harris, Commissioner Bob Ziobrowski, and many other local and county officials.

We presented four awards to very deserving recipients. Join us in congratulating the following award winners:

Business Person of the Year - William "Bill" Sanders, Jr.
Business of the Year - Choice Collision Center
Not for Profit of the Year - Mercersburg Area Council for Wellness
Volunteer of the Year - Gloria Pine

Thanks to all of those who joined us, and to the First Community Bank of Mercersburg for sponsoring the event. We look forward to next year.

Mercersburg Academy
"Shark Tank"

Chris Ardinger, TACC Executive Director was invited to participate in the Mercersburg Academy's version of "shark tank". The students had some very unique ideas and business concepts. This is a great learning opportunity for the soon-to-be graduates.
On Friday, March 18th, the business community came out in full force to help welcome Reese Burdette home from her long stay at Johns Hopkins. The community support for Reese and the Burdette family was absolutely amazing. We are delighted that she is finally home. Thank you to all of our members who showed your support.

Mercersburg Park Association Introduces Their Vision for a New Community Park

Mercersburg, PA - March 20, 2016 - On Sunday, March 20th, Mercersburg Park Association hosted an event at Flannery’s Tavern on the Square where they introduced their vision to build a community center that would include a basketball court, meeting rooms, multiple play field areas, a skatepark, an off leash dog run, picnicking areas, a walking path, and a handicapped accessible playground.

Mercersburg Park Association is a 501c3 organization with a mission of creating and maintaining a free public park and community center in Mercersburg. Executive board member, Ryan Smith says, “We’re grateful to Flannery’s for hosting this event and for their generosity in donating proceeds to the Park Association. It’s exciting to see the support this project already has and to have an opportunity to talk with Mercersburg residents about the kind of park they would like to create.”

The event lasted from open to close at Flannery’s and featured a presentation of the park concept at 2pm. Executive board members Jason Cotton and Todd McGuire spoke to a packed room about the project plan and answered questions from members of the community. “This is not just our park. It’s all of ’our’ park” said McGuire, while motioning to the packed room during the presentation. Some of the attendees included families, recreation enthusiasts and Senator Eichelberger.

“We’re still in the early stages of this project and the site plan is fluid, but we want to show the community what we are planning and to listen to feedback from local residents,” said board President, Jason Cotton. The Park Association has already invested a large amount of time in developing this project. The 15 member board meets once a month and is planning more community events in the near future.

Ryan Smith said, “We really want to thank all of the people who came out to learn more about our project. Mercersburg is a special place and it’s important that all local residents get involved to create new opportunities for the next generation.”
