May 26, 2016 Wildcat News

Happy Thursday HES Community!
We are wrapping up two weeks of SBACs with only make-up sessions planned for tomorrow.  The students did a fine job working hard on these long tests.  A special thank you to the K-2 students and teachers for keeping the school so quiet during the testing sessions (not an easy task this time of year!)  We are looking forward to the annual Memorial Day assembly tomorrow morning at 9:00 am and we hope you can join us.  This is always a highlight of the year.  Thank you to Heidi O'Connor for organizing this great event.  We have a special post-SBAC picnic lunch planned for afterwards followed by noon dismissal.
DI Trip
Our state champion Destination Imagination team is wrapping up their trip to the global finals in Tennessee this week.  We hear they are having a great time and last time we checked they were getting ready to represent Vermont at the competition this morning.
Angie Carpenter-Henderson
Please join me in giving a big Wildcat Welcome to our new PE teacher Mrs. Angela Carpenter-Henderson!  Angie comes to us from Barre Town School where she has been teaching PE for several years.  She has a BS from Castleton and recently earned her Masters from SNHU.  She brings a ton of energy to the position (she might even rival Mr. D's energy!) and will teach K-2 PE, 6-8 Health, and provide support in the Wildcat Lodge.  Welcome Mrs. C-H!
Good News Club
The North Hartland Community Church is starting a Good News Club for after school at HES next year.  The program will follow a set curriculum and is for students in grades K-5.   It will run weekly from 3:00-4:00 starting in September and wrapping up in April.  They plan to release packets with detailed information later.
Have a great long weekend.

Lunch Accounts
Hartland Elementary School's lunch program realizes that this is a very busy time of year for parents with sports, concerts, and many other activities.    We ask that during all of this busyness, you please take the time to make sure your child's lunch account is paid in full.   Amount due slips go home with each child every Friday.

Honoring Our Veterans

Every year the Hartland Elementary School invites Veterans and community members to attend our Memorial Day Assembly.  At this event, our students sing songs, recite poems, and honor those who serve and those who have served.  Please join us for this important and heartfelt ceremony.   The assembly will be held at the school on Firday, May 27th at 9:00 a.m.

The State of Vermont has released the immunization rates for the school year 2015-2016 and here is the link.

Helping Our Four-legged Friends

A group of us in 4th grade(Katarennah Hilliker, Cayden Marquay, Brady Olmstead & Micah Kellogg) read a book with Mrs. White titled  Dog Rescue. It was about helping to rescue dogs after Hurricane Katrina.  We learned that all help is important, no matter how small. So we decided to have  a bake sale during the 3-5 POD lunch on June 2, Thursday to raise money or donated items for animals in a humane society. You can pay $ for something, or you can bring a donation and trade for something. Or, you can simply bring in a donation and put it in the box that will be there the week of May 30th marked Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society.

Wish List Donations for Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society

Canned dog or cat food, 6 ‘ (foot) heavy duty leash,  Dry dog or cat food, Walmart gift card, Clay cat litter,   Peanut butter, Dog or cat toys, Large covered litter boxes, Bleach, Tractor Supply gift cards, Laundry detergent , Dog cookies or cat treat, Ivory dish soap
