Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous has a pretty full dance card this summer season. From five (!) trips aboard the streetcars, to exhibiting at multiple beer festivals, we are certainly going to be kept busy!
Without further ado, here's the plan....oh, one more thing, everything you read here is available to you on your mobile phone by subscribing to the #yegbeer calendar, which can be found on the EBGA website, here
Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous On Rails
A favourite series of events from the past is returning this year. The Edmonton Radial Railway Society operates and maintains a small fleet of antique streetcars from around the world. EBGA charters these streetcars to host beer tastings and seminars. The streetcars board at the north side of the Strathcona Farmers Market Building, then travel to the middle of the High Level bridge, 150ft above the North Saskatchewan river. There, parked in the middle of the bridge, aboard a 1947 street car from Australia is where the EBGA is hosting five beer tastings this year.

Urban Craft Beer & Food Festival
2 May 2014
- you missed it!
Last year Sherbrooke Liquor introduced us to the amazing pairing of local craft beer with local food trucks! Great beer, great food, great venue; all the makings for a unique, yet smaller event that shows off the diversity of our city.
This year, Sherbrooke brought it back for a second time; bigger and better. The EBGA was there (with a cask ale of course!) as an exhibitor. It was great to see some of your faces again, and to introduce ourselves to a few new ones.
The cask that was at the EBGA booth was from Hog's Head Brewing of St. Albert. It was their Hop Slayer IPA conditioned with 100g of whole-leaf Simcoe hops! Was it ever spicy and bold! Thanks to the brewers at Hog's Head for crafting this one for us!
Edmonton Craft Beer Festival
6 & 7 June 2014
This year also brings the second year for the Edmonton Craft Beer Festival! Last year's inaugural show was a great time - the largest collection of beers and beer geeks Edmonton has ever seen! This years' version is shaping up to be bigger and better!
EBGA is again exhibiting at the Edmonton Craft Beer Festival. We're set to host one of the beer seminar sessions! Our topic: cask conditioned ale, but of course!
This scale of event would not be possible without a great deal of coordination and, like any good beer festival, volunteers! 2014 finds the Edmonton Craft Beer Festival organizers looking for volunteer help. Many of the volunteers last year were EBGA-ers; we hope this year is the same. Interested parties can see to the two links below for more information:

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous encourages everyone able to volunteer for this great event! We hope to see you there, either helping out the organizers or enjoying some of Alberta's craft beer!

EBGA Real Ale Festival
6 September 2014, 1pm - 10pm
Ritchie Hall (7727 98 st)
Back in April we announced plans for our third annual cask ale festival. EBGA Real Ale Festival is one-of-a-kind for Alberta; a dedicated beer festival to only cask ales.
Tickets went on-sale via our website
a few weeks ago. We're trying to give as many people advance notice - it's selling incredibly fast for an event that isn't until September!
This month, we can announce who will be doing the food for EBGA Real Ale Festival - a small sandwich and coffee cafe that opened recently, but has seen outstanding reviews. Farrow - a cafe started by these two lads -
does amazing work when it comes to flavourful sandwiches and amazing coffee! We're proud, and damn lucky to have their talent on board to create special beer-centered items for the cask ale festival.
Farrow is located at 8422 109 street, Edmonton. They are open primarily for breakfast and lunch. Get there early as they are selling out regularly!
Moving on... Last month we gave you a sneak-peek at the list of breweries confirmed to participate in this year's EBGA Real Ale Festival (if you missed last month's newsletter, you can read all of the back-issues here
Additional news about EBGA Real Ale Festival will be sent out on our social media feeds as it becomes available.

Happy 4th Birthday Wunderbar!
For those of you who do not know, Wunderbar
was where the EBGA concept was born. It's where we've held, seemingly countless events, and a place that supported craft beer long before it was cool.
Now, more than ever, Wunderbar is known for being a place where music, art, and craft beer intersect.
This past weekend Wunderbar celebrated it's 4th birthday. We wish you all the best fellas. You deserve it!
Aurora Brewing Challenge
One final note for this month's newsletter - later in May is the annual home-brewing competition put on by the Edmonton Homebrewers' Guild, called the Aurora Brewing Challenge.
We're mentioning it here because there are some talented homebrewers coming up in the ranks of the Guild and someday, if we're lucky, they'll start to make beer professionally for the rest of us!
We'd like to wish all of the entrants the best of luck at the Aurora Brewing Challenge!
Until next time.
