Recap: #EBGACaskDay2013

What an outstanding success!  (and that's putting it mildly).

We really have to tremendously thank all of the patrons, brewers, volunteers, Sailin' On food truck, and of course Wunderbar for the fantastic outcome to #EBGACaskDay2013!

With both sessions being sold out and having a capacity crowd at Wunderbar we are extremely pleased with the outcome of the EBGA's second anniversary celebration and Alberta's only dedicated cask ale festival!  It was our pleasure to put on such an event and hope to make it bigger and better next year!  Let the planning begin.

In no special order here was a list of the cask ales pouring at #EBGACaskDay2013 - note that parts of this list were unknown to us up until the morning of the event!

- Alley Kat / 8 Wired: CollaBREWation Porter
- Alley Kat: Avenue Whyte IPA
- Cannery Brewing: Blackberry Porter Sans Blackberry   ** People's Choice Cask (Session 2) **
- Hog's Head Brewing: Baby Back Hops (dry hopped with Mt. Hood)
- Hog's Head Brewing: Baby Back Hops (dry hopped with Cascade)
- Jasper Brewing: Cucumber Ale
- Jasper Brewing: Rock Hopper IPA
- Parallel 49 Brewing: Lord of the Hops (dry hopped with Amarillo and Citra - dubbed The Hurtin' Albertan)  ** 1st Cask Finished (Session 2) **
- Phillips Brewing: Hop Circle (dry hopped with Citra)  ** People's Choice Cask (Session 1)  AND 1st Cask Finished (Session 1) **
- Wild Rose Brewing: Velvet Fog (conditioned with lemon, lime, grapefruit and dry hopped)
- Wild Rose Brewing: IPA (dry hopped)
- Yukon Brewing: Lead Dog Olde English Ale (conditioned with whiskey soaked oak cubes, dry hopped with Fuggles, and primed with Demerara sugar)

....Oi!  What an amazing list!

Once again, thank you's all around!

Alberta Flood Relief....

Many Albertans were lucky enough to be unaffected by the ravaging floods that swept through Southern Alberta a few weeks ago, many were not.  Two beer agencies in Alberta have begun programs to support the efforts of the Red Cross and other agencies aiding those in great need.  Here are the details as of the time of this drafting...

49th Parallel Group:
"
The extent of damage being caused in Calgary and communities in Southern Alberta from the floods is unimaginable.
We take great pride in being an Alberta based company, and are working on a program to assist with the cleanup and rebuild.
In July, a portion of every case of beer we sell in Alberta will go towards this rebuild. In the grand scheme of things, it may be a drop in the bucket, but we will do our part to help the communities that have helped us.
"

TruCraft/AFIC:
"To support the effort to help these people affected by the floods, TruCraft/AFIC is going to donate $20 PER KEG sold in BC and Alberta for the month of July while selected inventories last....  The funds collected will be handed over to the Alberta Red Cross who has agreed to partner with us."   The list of participating breweries looks like: Brooklyn, Deschutes, Hopworks (HUB), Lost Coast, Oskar Blues, Pyramid, and Sierra Nevada (BC only).

We at the EBGA like to think this is a great effort to helping support those who lost their homes and have had their lives drastically affected.  So, if you get a chance, have a pint from a brewery represented by either of these agencies and know that by doing such a simple thing, you can help in your own way.

EBGA On Rails

Much like our first trip on a vintage street car last year with the Edmonton Radial Railway Society (ERRS), we are once again taking craft beer to new heights atop the High Level bridge with their help (see what I did there?).

We have two scheduled events this summer season - one in July and another in August.  Both of these events will take part on the classic Edmonton #33 fully restored street car from 1912!  And we're going host two beer seminars on it while parked in the middle of the High Level bridge!

Ok, so now you know that we're taking advantage of one locally operated group to host a unique event, the other half is the beer, another locally operated outfit - Hog's Head Brewing Co.  Both beer seminars will feature a creation from Hog's Head and have a representative of the brewery on-hand to speak about the beer and the brewery!

Tickets for EBGA On Rails July are on sale now!  For the price of $20 each patron will get aboard the streetcar and at least two 12 oz pours of the yet to be determined Hog's Head beer.  The first in this series of events will take place on 30 July 2013 at 7pm and will have a duration of 1.5 hours, round trip.  The streetcar will both depart and arrive back at the Strathcona platform located at the North end of the Strathcona Farmers Market building.  There are very few tickets available as the streetcar can only hold so many people.

Once again, tickets for the July version of EBGA On Rails can be found here.

The second edition in this summer EBGA On Rails series is scheduled for 27 August. Tickets for the August event are not yet available as the event details have yet to be finalized.
