Alberta Small Brewers Association

The Alberta Small Brewers Association, much like the EBGA, aims to promote Alberta based craft brewers and will be starting a media campaign to educate the uninitiated and celebrate the hard work and creations of local brewers.

Keep an eye out for the logo below, which will soon denote local craft beer friendly locations, local craft brewery initiatives, and promotional events!

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous will be working closely with the Alberta Small Brewers Association in the future - keep your eye out!

Edmonton's Own:  Drink This Podcast

It's EBGA's turn to get on our soapbox to support some friends' endeavors. Our good friends Matt and Paul put a lot of effort into their Edmonton-based, drinks-centric podast.  Their podcast recently launch on it's own website; it's a big deal.  You can venture in to this podcasts here:

Drink This Podcast has been kind enough to invite Shane (speaking), current and founding President of EBGA, to be a guest on their podcast, not just once, but several times.  Creating the content through conversations with these two great fellas have been some of the most memorable moments and the most fun I've had in the beer world.  We've had the chance to discuss the state of Alberta beer, government policy, a weird and inter-twined history, and most of all, what makes local beer important. Every episode is an adventure, and I guarantee you that you'll learn something and laugh out loud (you may even cry) with each one.

The moral of this story is to do your part Edmonton, give these fellas a chance like they gave me a chance.  Listen to a locally recorded and produced podcast, and if you like what they are doing, TELL THEM!

EBGA On Rails 2016

The summer of 2016 will mark the fifth season of Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous partnering with the Edmonton Radial Railway Society to bring you EBGA On Rails.

This series of events features one of the most unique venues our city has to offer along with a healthy dose of locally brewed beer.  For each of the following charters, the particular brewery will be making a cask conditioned ale that will be served on board the antique streetcar while parked atop the High Level Bridge.  The backdrop for each of these charters is the scenic Edmonton river valley.  Members from each brewery will be on board the streetcar to describe their cask beer and be available to answer any brewery related questions the patrons may have.

Note that the Edmonton Radial Railway Society is a non-for-profit outfit that operates, maintains, and restores antique streetcars.  Their collection of streetcars are from around the world, but also feature cars that used to ferry commuters around Edmonton.  Some of these cars are more than 100 years old!  EBGA is very proud and thankful for the work and care the volunteers at ERRS put in so that we can share these unique moments with you.

Each charter will depart from the ERRS's Strathcona Streetcar Barn at 8408 Gateway Boulevard at 7pm SHARP!  Please note that Boarding Passes are non-refundable and that there are no washroom facilities aboard the streetcars - pee before we depart!

Boarding Passes for each charter are $20 (+service fees).  They include admission on to the streetcar, and 2 x 12 oz pours of the particular cask conditioned ale being served on the streetcar that evening (sorry, we don't yet know what the beers will be!).  Boarding Passes are available for purchase by EBGA members (if you get this newsletter, that means you!) only; sales for each charter will open one month before the event date.

13 July 2016 - Situation Brewing - SOLD OUT!

EBGA Real Ale Festival 2016

As alluded to above in the events listing, the 5th annual EBGA Real Ale Festival is currently in planning.

We're compiling our list of participating breweries and ordering an afternoon of beautiful weather well in advance.  This year's event will once again be held out-of-doors at the lovely Ritchie Community League Hall's hockey rink.

Tickets are now available!

Tickets are $30 and include the following:
- 1 (one) event re-entry wristband
- 1 (one) EBGA Real Ale Festival 2016 take-home glass
- 2 (two) beer tokens (8oz per token)
- 1 (one) door prize draw ticket

As usual, additional pours of cask conditioned tastiness will be sold at the following rates:
8oz of Real Ale = $2.50
16oz of Real Ale = $5.00

Along with the (developing) list of breweries, we are also proud to once again work with the amazing and wonderful Old Country Meats.  A to-be-determined selection of tasty offerings will also be available at the event.
Where:  Ritchie Community League Hall (7727 98 street)
When: 10 September 2016, 1pm - 8pm
Tickets: CLICK HERE!
The list of breweries preparing cask conditioned ales for this event is still developing, and will be released closer to the event date.  Note that last year's Real Ale Festival featured 19 cask ales and one cask mead!  We're well on our way to topping those numbers.

We need a few more amazing people to help out at Real Ale Festival.  Anyone interested in volunteering for a shift, please send us a note at:

And before we even get started - if you buy tickets, please also plan a safe and responsible way home.
