Northern Girls Hops - Presentation & Seminar
We're going back-to-basics!
Working together with Northern Girls Hops, Brewsters Brewing Company and Alley Kat Brewing, we're announcing an event, open to all those interested.
This seminar will be featuring Alberta's first commercial hop producer - Northern Girls Hops. The ladies (and fellas) will be presenting the ins and outs of growing hops in (Northern) Alberta! From how they got started, to their first harvest; from tips and tricks, to varieties, and much more!
To accompany the Northern Girls Hops presentation, a special cask ale loaded with their own hops (!) will be pouring during the evening. The cask ale will be from Alley Kat Brewing.
The event is free to attend, but you'll have to pay for your beer. The cask ale will be the feature, but don't forget the selection of Brewsters' beers! They may even still have some of their Blue Monk Barley Wine, or Howitzer Winter Ale still on!
Brewsters Oliver Square (11620 104 Ave) is generously opening their second floor space for this special event.
This is the perfect opportunity to be introduced to a side of the craft beer industry that is not normally open to the public. This type of event is at the core of what EBGA is about - supporting locally produced craft beer, and the industry in general through awareness and education. And it'll be the perfect opportunity to try a truly unique cask conditioned ale!

18 February 2015, 7pm
Brewsters Brewing Company, Oliver Square (11620 104 Ave, Edmonton)
Free to attend, just pay for the beer you drink while interacting with local hop growers and craft brewers!
Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous presents another cask ale centered event for your calendar, this time, with the premise of staving off the cold of a typically frigid time of year. We're introducing a smaller winter event to keep focus across the seasons and to continue to showcase the skill and products from some amazing local craft brewers.
Freeze Your Cask Off!
will be held on Saturday, 21 February 2015
at the Strathcona Community League Hall (10139 87 Ave), in Edmonton from 1pm - 7pm.
If you've previously attended our iterations of our EBGA Real Ale Festival, then you'll have a good idea of what we're trying to do. This time, however, we've posed a challenge to the brewers who will be creating the cask conditioned beers. Given the propensity to gravitate to darker styles, in part, to complement the few short hours of sunlight
we experience in Edmonton during the winter months, and in part because they can be of higher ABV to fight off the cold, the brewers have been challenged to create beers that also gravitate to the darker spectrum. At this point we can only speculate as to the styles they will aim for - Porter? Stout? Old Ale? Dark Belgian Strong? Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale? - who knows!
In addition to being the first winter cask ale festival put on by the EBGA, we're also proud to announce a physical embodiment of the partnership that we are developing with the Alberta Small Brewers Association. This particular embodiment happens to take the form of a special (limited) edition growler. The growler is co-funded by EBGA and ASBA, and will be a take-home gift for the patrons of Freeze Your Cask Off!
In line with all EBGA events, we are attempting to make this event both accessible and educational for all those that wish to attend. Patrons will likely have the opportunity to interact with many of the brewers that are creating the cask conditioned beers at the event.
