Alberta Small Brewers Association

The Alberta Small Brewers Association, much like the EBGA, aims to promote Alberta based craft brewers and will be starting a media campaign to educate the uninitiated and celebrate the hard work and creations of local brewers.

Keep an eye out for the logo below, which will soon denote local craft beer friendly locations, local craft brewery initiatives, and promotional events!

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous will be working closely with the Alberta Small Brewers Association in the future - keep your eye out!

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous is an Edmonton based society with the aim of increasing the awareness of and knowledge about local craft beer and the brewers that make it.  We host special events throughout the calendar year that feature various breweries or aspects of beer culture.

Each of our special events will have a unique aspect to it that (we hope) will both stimulate the patron and the brewers.  That aspect in our coming Freeze Your Cask Off! event is the challenge that we posed to all the brewers that are participating in the event.  Each brewery is challenged with the task of creating a winter-themed cask conditioned ale to serve at the event.

Typically cask conditioned ales that we see for cask nights around Edmonton and Calgary are made with production beer that is often readily at hand.  This is a great thing, it allows a brewer to use the beer that is already fermented/fermenting as a base and adjust its' profile from there to the edges of imagination and test out new ingredients, etc.

Freeze Your Cask Off! will be a bit different in that the brewers' creations will be more unique in that they will be crafted specifically to be winter-themed.  These beers can be a range of different styles, but are expected, given the constraints, to be generally darker beers (for example: stouts, porters, winter warmers, etc.) - we just don't know yet!

The breweries that are participating in the coming Freeze Your Cask Off! event are:

- Alley Kat Brewing
- Bench Creek Brewing
- Blindman Brewing
- Dandy Brewing Company
- Norsemen Brewing Co
- Ribstone Creek Brewery
- Troubled Monk Brewery
- Yellowhead Brewery

So, hopefully that gets your imagination going just as we have stimulated that in the brewers.

Once again, here's the link to purchase tickets for Freeze Your Cask Off! on Eventbrite.
