Amazing greenery and flowers we have in Colorado!  The extensive rains this year are really giving us some sights, aren't they? Here's one of the pics from our farm, and many more here from the month of June. Please send your favorite flower or greenery pic to us. Surprising (and a little shocking) data and research conclusions about the benefits of grass fed beef versus grain fed feedlot beef

I eat beef from 100% grass fed cows from small Colorado ranches.  It’s the same meat we feed our dogs. I’ve known for some time that the health benefits of grass fed beef are superior to grain fed.

But, until recently, I was not aware of the host of environmental and carbon benefits of grass fed beef, and the dramatic injury that grain fed feedlot beef is hoisting upon our health and environment, not to mention the even more grotesque and inhumane treatment of the livestock.

And yet, more than 94% of the beef we consume in the U.S. is grain fed feedlot beef!

What’s more, even China, whose pet products many of us refuse to purchase, is refusing grain fed beef imports from the U.S. because of serious animal welfare problems associated with the beef, while the U.S. regulatory agencies do nothing.

But there’s a simple fix that each one of us can do to help turn this around.

First, let’s take a look at grass fed versus grain fed feedlot beef.  I do my best to summarize key points in this article to keep it shorter, but include a sizeable list of information sources cited in the footnotes.

The sourcing, production and packaging for Peak Power Dog Treats and how we do it differently from other dog food companies

This article details our entire process for sourcing, producing and delivering our Peak Power Dog Treat products.  We want to be as transparent as possible with our processes so that customers have confidence we are producing high quality products that demonstrate the utmost in care and concern for livestock, land, environment and the health of our dogs.

My professional background has been building companies for investors, which included multiple food companies. I was immersed in all aspects of food consumer packaged goods, from the food science, ingredient sourcing, production, logistics, marketing and sales and everything in between.  Based on my experiences, my opinion is that what we are doing in this country to produce our food is, to be succinct, disastrous to our health and environment.

I also had severe health problems as a result of autoimmune responses to food, which I largely had to solve myself because health care practitioners at the time did not have the knowledge to treat me. The situation is much improved today among functional health practicioners, but still largely unchanged among western medical doctors.  My health experience required I do a deep dive into nutrition, food and health.

My professional and personal health experiences have greatly shaped why we’re doing it differently at The Light of Dog and seeking to get back to producing food that nourishes our health and respects our environment.
