NCGOP Calls On Roy Cooper to Defend NC Against President's Executive Overreach

Raleigh, N.C. - As President Obama announced new executive actions to curb the second amendment rights of North Carolinians, the North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) today called on Attorney General Roy Cooper to defend North Carolina and take a stand against President Obama's overreach. As attorney general, Roy Cooper's duty is to represent the State of North Carolina in court.

"President Obama's latest executive actions are not only illegal, but are a part of a troubling pattern of his disregard for the Constitution and the separation of powers in government," said NCGOP Chairman Hasan Harnett. "Attorney General Roy Cooper should do his job and pursue legal action to block the President's latest example of executive overreach."

As attorney general, Cooper has failed to defend North Carolina from executive overreach and harmful regulations from Washington, D.C. in the past. Cooper did not fight against the EPA's overreaching power plant regulations, which will force North Carolina families' power bills to sky rocket, in addition to the EPA's water rules which would have crippled our state's farmers. Further, Cooper failed to defend our state against ObamaCare, causing healthcare rates in the state to continue to rise.
