NCGOP Launches ImmoralMondays.com

Raleigh, N.C. – Today, the North Carolina Republican Party launched ImmoralMondays.com, a new website that exposes the groups and individuals who are really funding Moral Mondays and the opposition to Voter ID. The launch of this new website comes the same day union-funded Moral Mondays will hold a protest of North Carolina's common sense voter ID law in Winston-Salem.

"Rev. Barber and 'Immoral Mondays' have been bought and paid for by the big out-of-state labor unions, who want to impose their big-government agenda on North Carolina, and now we have the proof," said Todd Poole, executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party. "The reality is that 'Immoral Mondays' is a front for the biggest out-of-state unions to launch ceaseless attacks against Governor McCrory and Republican leaders. And while they put on a smoke and mirror show for the press about Voter ID, their efforts to challenge this common sense law is more about making it easier for Hillary Clinton, Attorney General Cooper and their union allies to cheat in our elections rather than protecting people’s rights."

The website, which will be backed by online advertising, launches today. Click here to visit ImmoralMondays.com.

Background

The Real Story Behind Voter ID Opposition

Voter ID Lawsuits In North Carolina And Other States Are Spearheaded By Hillary Clinton's Lawyer
  • "The lawsuits filed in Ohio and Wisconsin, like the 2014 North Carolina case, were brought by Marc Elias, a leading Democratic lawyer on voter protection issues" (Maggie Haberman, "George Soros Bankrolls Democrats’ Fight in Voting Rights Cases," The New York Times, 6/5/2015)

  • "Mr. Elias’s clients include four major national Democratic Party committees — as well as the Clinton presidential campaign" (Maggie Haberman, "George Soros Bankrolls Democrats’ Fight in Voting Rights Cases," The New York Times, 6/5/2015)

  • "The lawsuits — which are being led by a lawyer whose clients include Mrs. Clinton’s campaign — are attacking a variety of measures, including voter-identification requirements that Democrats consider onerous, time restrictions imposed on early voting that they say could make it difficult to cast ballots the weekend before Election Day, and rules that could nullify ballots cast in the wrong precinct." (Maggie Haberman, "George Soros Bankrolls Democrats’ Fight in Voting Rights Cases," The New York Times, 6/5/2015)

Voter ID Lawsuits In NC And Across The Country Are Funded By George Soros
  • "A Democratic legal fight against restrictive voting laws enacted in recent years by Republican-controlled state governments is being largely paid for by a single liberal benefactor: the billionaire philanthropist George Soros." (Maggie Haberman, "George Soros Bankrolls Democrats’ Fight in Voting Rights Cases," The New York Times, 6/5/2015)

  • "Mr. Soros described himself as 'proud' to be part of the legal battles. 'We hope to see these unfair laws, which often disproportionately affect the most vulnerable in our society, repealed,' he said."

  • "Two suits that Mr. Soros is supporting were filed in Ohio and in Wisconsin last month. He is also helping to pay for a case that Mr. Elias and several other groups filed last year in North Carolina." (Maggie Haberman, "George Soros Bankrolls Democrats’ Fight in Voting Rights Cases," The New York Times, 6/5/2015)

  • "Mr. Soros has already agreed to put as much as $5 million into the litigation effort, which Democrats hope will erode restrictions on voter access that they say could otherwise prove decisive in a close election." (Maggie Haberman, "George Soros Bankrolls Democrats’ Fight in Voting Rights Cases," The New York Times, 6/5/2015)

Moral Mondays And Groups Leading The Opposition To Voter ID Are Funded By Out-Of-State Labor Unions
  • "The North Carolina Republican Party issued a statement criticizing Barber for taking thousands of dollars in union donations while organizing the Moral Monday protests." (John Moritz, "Equal protection protests lead to arrests at NC legislature," The Associated Press, July 1, 2014)

Democrat Candidate For Governor Roy Cooper Has Worked To Undermine the Voter ID Law As Attorney General
  • The Raleigh News & Observer previously reported that the statements Attorney General Cooper made against the 2013 voter ID bill were so politically biased that Holder’s Department of Justice actually quoted Cooper directly in the lawsuit against North Carolina:

“Cooper has asked the governor not to sign the voting bill, calling it ‘regressive,’ and said that requiring voters to show photo identification is ‘unnecessary, expensive and burdensome.’ His comments were citied in the U.S. Justice Department’s lawsuit filed Monday.”  (John Frank & Rob Christensen, “NC AG Roy Cooper questions Pat McCrory on voting lawsuit; governor’s office fires back,” Raleigh News & Observer, 10/1/12).

Hillary Clinton Has Embraced Moral Mondays Efforts To Stop Voter ID In North Carolina
  • "Hillary Clinton gave a shout-out to the Moral Monday movement in North Carolina during a voting rights speech in Texas on Thursday. Speaking at Texas Southern University, a historically black college in Houston, the Democratic presidential candidate called for more activists to join the fray."
