National Finalists for the Great British Care Home Awards Announced

10th March 2015 saw over 100 regional finalists from all over the country come together for the national Judging Day of the Great British Care Home Awards.

The search to find the overall national winners of this year’s Great British Care Home Awards is almost complete. 2014 category winners of from the each of the nine regions in England were invited to attend the judging day for the national finals, bringing together the crème de la crème of the social care workforce.

The awards, which are supported by the Department of Health, take place at a prestigious new venue, The ICC in Birmingham, on the 25th April where the winners will be announced.  The evening will be hosted by GBCA Host Steve Walls and consist of a drinks reception, a superb gourmet dinner followed by the awards presentation with a special guest.

Finalists at the judging day represent all regions from all over the country.  From local private care providers, residential and nursing homes and local authority adult social care departments – one thing they all had in common was they epitomised the unsung heroes of communities.  Without such people quality care for the vulnerable and elderly people would fail.

The Great British Care Awards are a celebration of excellence across the care sector.  The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both home care and care homes sectors, and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
There are a total of seventeen awards categories in the finals which represent all areas of the care home sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care.  From frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training, specialist care and innovation.
The awards have received support from across the social care sector, including the Adult Directors of Social Services (ADASS), Care England, Department of Health, National Skills Academy for Social Care and the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE).
The Care Workers Charity which is the registered charity for the care sector, supporting  current, former and retired care professionals, by providing assistance to relieve financial hardship or sickness.
Lisa Carr, a Director of the Great British Care Awards said,
“This is just the sixth year we will be holding the national finals and we have once again been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm from our industry. The quality of the finalists from across the country and throughout the sector is extremely high and the judges had the unenviable task of choosing an overall winner for each category – a true national champion.  The awards offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the successes of individuals, teams and businesses throughout the UK - people who really do make a positive impact on people’s lives.  During these testing economic times social care has once again suffered the impact of associated adversity – the awards are a positive way of raising motivation within our social care workforce and indeed the profile of the sector as a whole.  We are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting and awards evening.”
