Hope transforms!

Dinah Kwamboka is 38 years old, married and has five children. Her daughter Rihanah Atieno is one of our students in preschool. Due to Dinah’s alcoholic behavior, she neglected her children and did not take good care of them. This was observed from the way Rihanah would come to school looking untidy, sometimes without a uniform, and her attendance was not regular. One of our staff volunteered to take care of Rihanah, who had been neglected by her parents, and ensure Rihanah’s school and personal needs were cared for.

Dinah and her husband were known for their alcoholism throughout the entire village where they lived. They were often spotted in drinking dens and along the road sleeping or just lazing around. They had lost hope and direction in life and the community regarded them as worthless and beyond being helped.

As a school, we resolved to meet with Dinah and talk to her. We used one of our staff members, Susan Choge, who visited the family, shared with them various stories, encouraged them and finally shared with them the word of God. Both of them agreed to give their lives to God and Susan prayed to them and invited them to her church where she fellowships.

They did not show up to church for the first two Sundays but we did not give up. Susan continued to visit them and talk to them. Finally, they went to church on the third Sunday. The church prayed for them and they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This was the turning point in their lives. They stopped drinking and as of now, they have enrolled for discipleship classes and they also attend weekly fellowships.

Dinah has now secured a cleaning job at a neighboring rescue center. This makes it easy for us to continue to reach out to her and encourage her in her transformation journey. She has transformed into a very responsible woman and mother. She pays her daughter’s commitment fees and takes care of all her children. As a result, Rihanah is very tidy and she never misses out on school.

The husband is also doing well; he goes to church and he is currently looking for a job so he can support his family. We give all the glory to God for this great transformation!
