Nteisan was known to be drunkard who could work very hard but did not support his family since all his money was used to buy beer. Upon his coming home, his children and his wife could not stand him due to his behaviors. This was very stressful for his family. Nteisan would come to school to look for casual jobs. A relationship was created with our staff and we started counseling him. He stopped spending time in town and even volunteered within the school compound. We began to hire him to do things around the compound.
The social worker and school manager’s relationship with him began to bear fruit. He gradually began to change and slowly he started changing his perspective about life. He enrolled his boys, who previously spent their days tending to livestock, in school. One of the boys proved to be very bright and now he is doing well in first grade. The family has trusted the school with their children because they know the children will receive a quality education.
In December last year, Nteisan was hired as a backup night guard, where he proved to be competent. As a result, early this year, he was hired as a night guard for our Kargi school. Now, the family is stable and doing very well together. Nteisan no longer drinks beer and the family attends the CITAM Kargi Church every Sunday. Today, Nteisan is the most reliable support staff in the school.
