Serving as a cornerstone in Vancouver's Japanese Canadian community for over forty-one years, Powell Street Festival Society has grown into a contemporary venue for unique, experimental, interdisciplinary artwork.
In 2018, our offerings include:
The presentation of established contemporary international and domestic artists, as well as emerging and experimental performers. We provide fair compensation including travel costs and competitive artist fees while maintaining a free and accessible festival.
A curated array of new and returning craft and food vendors, and interactive activities, in our expanded site accommodating over 17,500 festival goers. During the year, we will reach out to communities beyond the Lower Mainland with artistic programming.

Sumire Yoshihara (percussion) and Kazue Sawai (17- and 5-string koto) are among the most respected and iconic performers of Japanese contemporary music. Bridging ancient and new sounds, this amazing duo presents a selection of Japanese contemporary music showcasing a range of poetic approaches. Presented in collaboration with Vancouver New Music.
