We are pleased to announce the new outdoor festival site for this weekend’s 38th Annual Powell Street Festival!

On Saturday August 2nd and Sunday August 3rd, the Festival's action will radiate out from the intersection at Alexander Street and Jackson Avenue, located in the heart of Vancouver's historic Japanese Canadian neighbourhood. Remaining close to our indoor venues, the Festival will include an outdoor stage, children's tentfood boothscraftcommunity and market booths along Alexander Street (between Dunlevy to Princess Avenues), and Jackson Avenue (from Railway to Cordova Streets).

Our diverse lineup of performers and more than 25 craft and market booths and 15 food booths will continue as planned, with only slight changes in location and scheduling. Previously scheduled outdoor performances will move to the open-air Diamond Stage on Alexander Street and to the indoor stage at the Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall (475 Alexander). The Japanese Hall will also be the site for the ever popular Sumo tournament and all of the martial arts demonstrations. Craft, market and community booths as well as the Children's Tent will move near the intersection of Alexander and Jackson. Food booths, including new vendors selling ramen and Japanese style hotdogs, will now run along Jackson.

All programming originally scheduled for the Firehall Arts Centre (280 E. Cordova Street) and Centre A (229 E. Georgia Street) will continue unchanged, as well as our opening night launch concert at the Electric Owl (926 Main Street) this Friday (Aug. 1). The Parallel Paths presentation has moved to the Vancouver Buddhist Temple (220 Jackson Avenue) from the Japanese Hall.

It's going to be a Powell Street Festival to remember! Come down and join us this weekend for some food, festivities and fun!

Festival Launch with GRMLN & Late Spring; Friday, Aug. 1!

We are ecstatic to have GRMLN, the noise-pop project of Kyoto-born Yoodoo Park, play our festival launch event this Friday, August 1 @ 8pm at Electric Owl (926 Main Street). GRMLN's music incorporates the sunny feel of SoCal with nostalgia for his Japanese roots. GRMLN will perform songs from his critically acclaimed, dream-pop tinged debut EP Explore, rock-driven 2013 album Empire and forthcoming album, Soon Away, to be released this Fall. Opening for GRMLN is local band Late Spring.
