Barbeque and Backpacks

At FBC we've come to associate these two words with joy. We mark our calendars, we choose a day to celebrate. Celebration is an ancient spiritual practice that creates space for joy. Joy can emerge spontaneously, but it is so central to our lives together, we schedule it in. We make space for it, and it takes practice.

Practice celebration.
When we practice celebration, when we practice joy, we root ourselves in a deeper story, a story of overcoming adversity and redemption.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? The same way you get to a joy-filled, wholehearted life: practice.

This Sunday, we will practice.

Blue Ribbon BBQ will be ready after worship on Sunday. Please bring your favorite dessert and beverages, and donations help us defray the cost.

But there's more...

Students of all ages are invited to bring their favorite backpack (new or old) and have it blessed for their new school year. We will also take a collection for Blessings in a Backpack which provides food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.

Worship itself is an act of celebration. So, join us this Sunday for a double celebration!

Blessings,

Sean

Parents: There will be no Parents of Kids lunch this month in light of Blue Ribbon Sunday 9/16.

Sun Sept 23 Open (& Affirming) Mic Night!

A special kind of open mic: an Open (and Affirming) Mic night.

A space for people across age range and ability to come and celebrate a gift they have or want to explore. Although there may be some of that, you don't need to be an "expert" or be on Broadway to come up to the mic. Sing a song, play an instrument, tell a story, perform an act, speak about your art. Anything you are passionate about.

We will affirm and celebrate all ages and abilities. 10 people. 4-5 minutes each.
